Wembley security yesterday

Something I raised earlier in the tournament was the pathetic security arrangements. After the shambles of last night, quite frankly... we do not deserve to host a home tournament in this country  until the security at Wembley is giving a complete overhaul.

When we went to Russia, you had private security,  Fifa volunteers, the police and the military all carrying out proper ticket/person checks on everyone at certain checkpoints. It all went very quickly and without fuss.

The scenes yesterday at Wembley were truly ridiculous, from how easy it was for people to get into the stadium for free to random fights breaking out between stewards and fans. What's the point in collecting the caps now when you can just waltz in un-challenged? It was good to see some honest England fans challenging these free loaders but it shouldn't be their job.

The current security arrangements are not fit for purpose. Something needs to happen.

    There were far too many people on Wembley Way and the stewards seem to have given up by the time I arrived. The covid check never happened, pointless anyway because no one has ever looked at what I showed them in previous games, first ticket check never happened before it went really wrong. At the stadium people were allowed to swamp the entrances with no checks at all. I had to search for a steward to activate my ticket who laughed and said it wasn’t his problem when told that hundreds of ticketless fans were trying to get in. Police at the turnstiles said they were there to stop disorder not check tickets but they stood there until it turned ugly rather than preventing it. Stewards inside not interested and no one watching the turnstiles. Fans with tickets had to police those without with little help.

    Little wonder it again felt way more than 60k again.

    In the few mins we were accessing the ground we saw a turnstile been forced and circa 30 young lads steam in.

    We also were surrounded by a further 10 who couldnt get through our turnstile as they didn't have proper tickets and it was clear they were trying to jibb in with us.

    How the Hell did they manage to get passed the Covid and intial ticket checks?

    If this happened in the couple of mins we were there God knows how many got in across all the gates across the full entry time.

    Loads of England fans watching in the concourse side of the stadium and booing the antics of these characters. Whilst we were 'robustly challenging' those around us who, it was clear, were trying to bend us over.

    Absolute shambles.

    It would not surprise me if nearly a 1000 got in with out tickets they were coming from all angles. And really if you don’t have a ticket what have you got to lose by giving it a go .

    Just watching footage in Twitter of some of the storming of various gates.

    We're talking thousands aren't we.

    Some proper pastings handed out by fans frustrated that their loyalty counted for nothing compared to these freeloaders.

    Security learned absolutely nothing from the semi.

    Generally ashamed at the behaviour of sections of our 'fans' throughout this tournament. Easy to see why we're hated on the continent. Hope the idiots who have shamed the national team, are nowhere near Budapest and Warsaw when we go out there. Real pity as we were slowly rebuilding the our reputation, until this tournament

    Security and stewarding was farcical, you would think at up to a 1000 euro a ticket they could afford to employ someone to check the tickets and man the turnstiles
    By far the biggest amount of dickheads I have ever seen at a match, it was like the Dortmund game on steroids.
    Wembley Way was a festival of twats, police appeared to be doing nothing.
    In hindsight I wish I had sold my ticket for stupid money to one of these bellends.
    Any chance of hosting another tournament must be gone.

    Agreed- a complete joke. Someone pushed through the turnstile behind me in full view of the stewards who said nothing and just waved the guy through. Police presence was also far too low.

    No idea who the Wembley head of security is, but they should be preparing their resignation this morning,
    Under policed, shambolic stewarding, access to the the stadium was a free for all and not really much I can add that hasn’t already been said. Total chaos on Wembley way & glad to see those tailgating others through the turnstiles get dump tackled on the other side. And the occasional right hook to those who stormed a side gate. Absolute vermin.

    At about 6:30pm at entrance 1 they just let everyone up the steps without a covid check or ticket check.

    Surely the head of security must be looking at the CCTV of all these incidents and thinking if they're in the right job.

    Are people really trying to get someone sacked , this person may have a mortgage children to feed etc and you want them to lose it all over England fans wanting and trying to watch us in our first final in 55 years at Wembley of all places

    The old Wembley Way was dank, dark and uninviting. Rivers of urine flowed down it on match days. It has been cleaned up now and looks pretty good but last night it was a disgrace. I've never liked too heavy-handed policing or stewarding but it was virtually non-existent yesterday. The stewards that were there were outnumbered, punched and abused.

    The queues for the covid check were tiresome when I got there with loads trying to get through. Of course they succeeded but many were then turned away at the ticket check but some did get through and got away up the stairs just by running. There was nothing the other side of the ticket check. I made sure my wife got through first without people jibbing in with her and then I had my wits about me and did the same. But zero stewards. We saw the disabled entrance door breach with 10s of people getting through. The stewards were neither capable or bothered enough to do much to stop it. When you think about it there should be 5 checks to get in. The covid, the first ticket check, the ticket barrier, the stewards doing the bag/body search, the check to get into your section. All of them breached. What a joke!

    As someone else said, Russia got it bang on even if it felt a bit over the top. Wembley has that natural funnel so it should have been even easier. As I said, I don't blame the stewards too much (at £10 an hour or something) but those organising this should hang their heads in shame. There were about 1.5 people per seat in our row. Why is that allowed to happen?

    And one other thing. That Bonnucci geyser at the end. If I had just won the Euros the last thing on my mind would be to gesture like that at the opposition fans, I'd be delighting in my country's victory and celebrating with my teammates or, possibly, commiserating with the other side (I like to think I would do this but that Colombia penalty shoot out meant the opposition was the last thing on my mind). Zero humility. Idiot.

    Quite agree - from a security and safety viewpoint - was One of the most badly organised events I have been to - absolute shambles and dangerous

    And rightly so.

    Not up to the job.

    Nothing learned from the semi.

    I thought we'd eradicated scenes like this to the bad old days when overcrowding and storming of gates etc caused injuires and fatalities.

    Clearly not.
