UEFA Nations League: Croatia update

UEFA Nations League: Croatia update

Posted by Team England at 20:56 on Monday 12 February 2018

On Tuesday 30 January 2018 UEFA confirmed that the UEFA Nations League group match between Croatia and England scheduled for 12 October will be played behind closed doors.

The decision to play the match behind closed doors was made by UEFA and completes a two-game stadium ban ordered after a swastika was marked on the pitch ahead of a 2016 European Championship qualifier against Italy.  The game against Italy was already being played behind closed doors as a result of a previous sanction.

We share our fans’ disappointment at receiving the news after the draw had been made, however we fully respect and understand UEFA’s firm stance on the stadium ban.

In order to understand the number of ESTC members affected by this decision, we are advising anyone who finalised their travel plans prior to UEFA’s confirmation of its stadium ban on the 30th January to email the englandsupportersclub@thefa.com providing full details of their travel booking.

With regards to the Spain v England fixture on Monday 15 October, supporters will be notified as soon as the details for the match have been confirmed.

What information do you need? Are reservation numbers enough from the companies or do you want e-mails forwarded from reservations?

Spain are having a laugh here how long they’re taking to chose a venue

They don't have to announce a venue until July as per UEFA guidelines. When we played them in February 2009, they announced the venue in December and notoriously take their time to announce these things.

I object to the word ‘confirmed’ above. They didn’t ‘confirm’; that would imply they had indicated this was likely to happen in advance. ‘Announced out of the blue’ would be more appropriate.

Confirm is correct as it was already stated by uefa  posted back in 2015. The problem was them forgetting to mention it again before the Nations League Draw.

“The Uefa control, ethics and disciplinary body today decided to impose a deduction of one point on the Croatian Football Federation (HNS),” European football’s governing body said in a statement, adding that the punishment was for “racist behaviour”.

“The HNS has also been ordered to play its next two home matches in UEFA competition behind closed doors and not to play any of its remaining qualifying games at the Stadion Poljud in Split.”
