UEFA EURO 2020

Transferring tickets

Will the transfer of tickets be allowed between two ESTC members? Have a group of 4 applying for all games, there is one ESTC member who cant make the games away from London and we have a 5th person willing to take the tickets for last 16 and quarters?

No. Transfers are not allowed. If 1 person can't make the games away from London, i.e. the R16 and QF, why don't you just apply for 3 tickets to those rounds and 4 tickets to the group matches, semi-final and final. You don't have to apply for the same number of tickets for all matches.

Regarding the 5th person, he could submit an application on his own behalf for the matches which he wants to attend. When you submit your application and get a confirming email from UEFA, this will include a Group ID. Give the 5th person your Group ID. He enters this on his application. Then, if he is successful for any of the same matches as you and in the same categories, you will be sat together.

I understand both Alex's question and David's response.
Probably best not to try to explain reasons on here but think about it logically.
David has given the textbook answer. ;-)

They'll be mobile phone only tickets. And then, as per the Nations League Finals in Portugal, when the ticket turns up on your mobile phone the transfer option is disabled and there's a banner across the ticket to the effect of "not transferable". So there isn't a way of transferring electronically.

Anyone know if the general sale tickets will a) be issued on the same mobile system and b) transferrable.

I cant see if uefa said they would be postal or app based. If I miss any of the group games im hoping to go with friends that picked up pricier tickets in the general sale.

    Michael,

For the Nations League Finals we also bought tickets in the general sale for Portugal v. Switzerland. The tickets were issued on the same mobile system - but these were transferable … just had to put in an email address for the recipient. I think the recipient has to register with UEFA if they haven't already.

Same system was in place for the Europa League Final in Baku. We had general sale tickets for this one as well.

The official position, according to the T&Cs, is that no tickets are transferable except to the guests named on the original applications.

All of the blurb from the FA says that our tickets will be delivered only by mobile phone app. The UEFA FAQs for the fans of the participating teams only include questions and answers about mobile phone tickets.

However, people who bought tickets in last summer's general public sale say that their confirmation emails talk about ticket delivery by courier. The UEFA FAQs for the tickets sold to the general public in the December sale do include questions and answers about paper tickets.

There is some sense in making this division between the two sales channels. Where people are buying unconditional tickets, they can all be issued in advance, including those to the knock out rounds. For fans who buy conditional tickets to the knock out rounds, paper vouchers would have to be exchanged for tickets at a ticket exchange point if / when your team qualifies for a knock out round, whereas mobile phone tickets can just be sent to your phone at a couple of days notice. There is therefore a significant administrative saving if UEFA can do away with the ticket exchange points. This still doesn't explain why all tickets are not delivered by mobile phone app.

As regards illegitimate ticket transfers, there are the rules and then there are the steps taken to enforce the rules.

Stopping the illegitimate transfer of paper tickets would require a huge undertaking at the stadiums, with stewards having to request photo ID and then cross-checking this against the ticket. This has not been done at previous tournaments.

Stopping the illegitimate transfer of mobile phone tickets is technically feasible, even easy. All applicants and their guests have their personal details uploaded on to the UEFA ticketing database at the time of the application. When they download the app and register to use it, it would be easy to check that the registration details correspond to an applicant or guest in the ticketing database and to decline the registration if this is not the case. Similarly, tickets can only be transferred through the app and this leaves an audit trail in the UEFA computer. It would be easy to check that the recipient of the transfer is one of the guests whose details are held in the ticketing database.

Having said all of this, these capabilities of the mobile phone app ticketing system were not used during the Nations League. Anecdotally, it seems that plenty of illegitimate transfers were taking place. Whether the system will be tightened up for Euro 2020 remains to be seen.

    In reply to David Lilley:

We got tickets for 6 matches at Euro2020 in the UEFA general public sale.

I don't believe there was a delivery charge and the confirmation email just says: "Tickets will be distributed in May 2020. You will be informed about the delivery by email."

So I anticipate these tickets will be delivered through the mobile app. Only one email address was provided in the application and so I expect all 23 of our tickets will come through to the one person.

In terms of the people actually using the tickets the confirmation email just says: "Please also note that for security reasons, the local authorities may request the full details of each attendee at any moment. If there is a request from the local authorities, we will contact you with instructions on how to proceed".

So, yes, UEFA take a much more relaxed approach to general public sale tickets.
