EURO 2020

UEFA EURO 2020

Questions that everyone will want answering - EURO 2020

Good evening chaps,

I know there's a wealth of knowledge flying about on these forums and I thought I'd just create a little thread to try and get a few questions into one for people to read, as I know a lot of people have been wanting the same answers to questions I'm thinking of and you can't always find them easily enough in some of the conversations. My main questions are as follows and any help would be greatly appreciated if you could spare five minutes answering them for me (mainly directing this at top cappers who have travelled home and away for years and know the deal).

1. Is there any reason why we aren't playing a game in Glasgow, considering Glasgow is a host city in our group? If Scotland qualify they get two games at home and one at Wembley, why is it not the other way round.. or simply is it because of the way the draw trickled out earlier on? I love tournament football and yes Wembley will be a different place than usual, but it would have been brilliant to go away to Glasgow for a match, against any of our opponents. I'm assuming it's concrete now that we have to wait till the last 16 to play abroad in Dublin / Copenhagen etc.

2. I have a reasonable amount of caps (22) along with another friend i travel with (around 14 caps). I have had three other friends recently sign up and all obtain 2 caps from the montengro game. Would you suggest splitting the applications, with me and my friend and me as a lead booker (both of us on much more caps than the others) and then the other three apply together with their 2 caps each? If you can think of another way, how please.

3. Are 2 caps likely to get tickets for the group stages at Wembley with 11,000+ expected for ESTC members?

4. Do we need to create accounts through UEFA, or can we use our nations league / Euro 2016 accounts and update details?

5. Does everyone need a UEFA account, or just the lead booker?

6. Are the friends on 2 caps better off applying for higher priced tickets?

7. Are tickets needing to be paid for upon applying, or are they conditional offers should you be successful for not just group games, but all rounds?

8. Is there any way of applying with 5, or are the apps going to have to be split as mentioned above?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Alex

    1. The simple answer is because it's in the competition rules.

The rationale is that one country in every group must play all of its matches at the same venue. It is impossible to construct a fixture list where this isn't the case. So, which country should it be and where should they play ? The rules say that :-

If both host countries in a group qualify for the finals tournament directly, i.e. not via the play-offs, then there is a draw in November to see which country gets 3 matches at home. This happened in Group B. Both Russia and Denmark qualified directly. Denmark won the draw and will play 3 matches in Copenhagen whilst Russia will get only 2 matches in St Petersburg.

If only one host country qualifies directly and the other is either in the play-offs or eliminated, then the qualified host country will get 3 matches at home. Thus, Italy, Netherlands, England, Spain and Germany will get 3 matches at home. UEFA are NOT going to wait until after the play-offs to see whether any of the other host countries qualify, and then decide on the fixture list. They want the fixture list sorted now.

If both host countries are in the play-offs then there would again be a draw. But this didn't happen.

    2. and 6. When you apply for tickets you must say which category you want. Although you can opt for different categories for different matches, if you apply with your mates then you must all apply for the same category for any particular match. On 22 caps, you stand a decent chance of category 3 tickets, especially if you indicate a willingness to be moved to category 2 if your first choice is sold out. But for your mates on 2 caps to stand a chance of tickets, they need to apply for category 2 with a willingness to be upgraded to category 1. So, unless you want to apply for the expensive tickets too, it might make sense for the 22 cappers and the 2 cappers to apply separately for different ticket categories.

    3. I think the 2 cappers can be optimistic about getting some tickets if they apply for the expensive category. This is not guaranteed and they won't necessarily get tickets to all matches they apply for.

    4. If you have active accounts from the Nations League or Euro 2016, you shouldn't have to open new accounts.

    5. Only the lead booker needs an account.

    7. After you have been told which matches you have been successful for, which should be by the end of January, you will have to pay for the tickets. You will be given a link which takes you to a payment screen. There will be a deadline for paying for the tickets. You must pay for all of the tickets allocated to you.

    8. The maximum number of applicants on one application is 4.

If the 22 cappers and 2 cappers want to apply for different ticket categories then they will need to be on separate applications. You would be in different parts of the stadium.

If all 5 of you want to sit together then you will need to apply for the same ticket categories. So, either the 22 cappers will have to apply for more expensive tickets than you could get away with or the 2 cappers will have to apply for the cheaper tickets and risk being unsuccessful. If you do want to sit together then you will have to apply as two groups, a 3 and a 2, but they can be linked for seating purposes by using a Group ID.

As Mark Miles says, see the FAQs.

Thanks for the clarification. BBC Sport post draw claimed if Scotland qualified via the play offs there would be a draw to determine whether the game between us would be at Wembley or Hampden. One less thing to worry about!

    In reply to William Pletts:

William, that rule did cause some confusion. However, another rule said that if only 1 of the 2 countries qualified from the group( and not the play off ) , then that country would automatically get the 3rd game at their ground. Hence its 3 Group games for Wembley.

    Hi Jason

Just to clarify the question are you asking if it's possible to transfer a ESTC ticket to another member (of your choice) should your wife not be able to attend?

And are you asking if it's physically possible OR if it's allowed under the rules? Or both?

    In reply to jason broom:

The rules under the ESTC application are that the transfer of tickets isn't allowed. I'm not clear what the rules were under those direct from UEFA.

The ticket being on an App makes transfer problematic anyway.

The good thing about the application is that you can apply for matches on a game by game basis so ones which your wife is doubtful for you can leave her off.

Due to not knowing where we will play (and the distance between locations) and the fact people have to apply for L16 and QF without this info, if we finish third (or even second) the fixtures that we then have will mean they'll be plenty of people that unfortunately have to bin off matches due to not being able to attend matches due to logistics.

I'm not clear what the rules were under those direct from UEFA.

The ticketing T&Cs for the UEFA general public sale also say that tickets can only be used by the booker and the guest(s) named on the original application. If you are caught transferring the tickets in breach of the T&Cs then UEFA are entitled to cancel ALL of your tickets without refund.

However, unlike for tickets through the FA allocation, tickets from the UEFA lottery can be put on the ticket resale platform. We don't know how long the platform will be open so it's not certain that this option will be open when Jason eventually finds out whether his wife can use her ticket(s). Also, submitting tickets to the platform does not guarantee that they will sell.

As an aside, I've just skimmed the UEFA FAQs regarding paper v mobile tickets. The FAQs for applicants who declare themselves as supporting "Other" includes a section about the delivery and safekeeping of paper tickets, as well as a section on mobile phone tickets. None of the 20 sets of team-specific FAQs have a section on paper tickets : they only answer questions about mobile phone tickets. I am stumped by the logic of insisting that all registered fans of participating teams must accept tickets delivered by mobile phone app, even if they don't have a compatible phone, but the general public get paper tickets through the post.

If you apply for a Cat 3 ticket & 'accept another category' that gives you the option of a Cat 2 ticket.

If you still don't get allocated one will you get the option of a Cat 1 before they are offered to others?

I'm on 18 caps so in the top 70% for Wembley games.

    In reply to Joseph Allen:

No. You will only ever be moved by one category. So, if you apply for category 3 and tick 'accept another category' you won't be moved to category 1.
