Wembley security yesterday

Something I raised earlier in the tournament was the pathetic security arrangements. After the shambles of last night, quite frankly... we do not deserve to host a home tournament in this country  until the security at Wembley is giving a complete overhaul.

When we went to Russia, you had private security,  Fifa volunteers, the police and the military all carrying out proper ticket/person checks on everyone at certain checkpoints. It all went very quickly and without fuss.

The scenes yesterday at Wembley were truly ridiculous, from how easy it was for people to get into the stadium for free to random fights breaking out between stewards and fans. What's the point in collecting the caps now when you can just waltz in un-challenged? It was good to see some honest England fans challenging these free loaders but it shouldn't be their job.

The current security arrangements are not fit for purpose. Something needs to happen.

    I have left a comment there and suggest everyone else does as well. There is enough evidence there to get him arrested, though no doubt our police are too busy investigating non crime hate incidents

    The only positive thing is that it was dark by the time he got in so after 10 o'clock

    I agree that this incident wont affect any future World Cup bid.

    If the FIFA delegates who vote want us to have it, we'll get it. They dont give a sh1t about what happened on Sunday.

    It wasn't just the local population involved.

    I'm seeing that narrative more and more.

    People came from all over the place to take part in the 'festivities' on Wembley Way and also the jibbing in.

    I'm sure of that.

    Its a good idea but if the council kick off against it then red tape would come in to play.

    They were the ones who allowed all that cr@p to be built around the stadium and I'm guessing they wouldn't give the green light for their cash cow to be swallowed up and only used by the football crowd on a match day.

    There are many businesses within the environs that would have to be closed off. I dont know how well you know the area but you would have to close off all the little streets and alleys that can lead to the shopping centre part that can subsequently take you on the stadium. Unless you just cordon off every street and insist everbody enters the stadium via Wembley Way. Again I'm not sure if the Council would allow this.

    The bottom line is if they hadn't built that hideous load of crap right next to the stadium we wouldn't have this problem. The old ring road should have been left intact with nothing built beyond that and it could have been used as the cordon. A proper cordon with a glass wall and police/army when a big game is on.

    As it appears to be in a foreign language they'll be able to see how to get in but wont be able to follow a word the kid is saying....because I frigging couldn't.

    I can't believe how easy it was for anyone to get into the stadium and get amongst the crowd at a major event watched by a global audience.
    Football stadiums should be on high alert for terror attacks. The incompetence is staggering. Unless I've missed it, why has nobody been sacked yet?

    Sure they’ve appointed someone to carry out an independent review, but that’s it? Nothing from Wembley, the FA, the Police (other than the insane belief they carried out a SUCCESSFUL operation)

    That’s not quite true Chris , the MET released a statement saying that because UEFA/ Wembley wouldn’t pay them to police the stadium they had no power to intervene
    Surely that’s bull though as you’d think if a crime was being committed then our tax money that pays for them should ensure people’s safety whether they’ve been paid by Uefa or wembley or not

    I think the police should have done much more to prevent the public disorder outside the stadium perimeter. When I arrived, they were just standing around.

    But, regarding your comment about a crime being committed, this is the problem. What the freeloaders who burst through the outer perimeter fencing and breached the turnstiles and disabled entrances were doing was trespass. This is a civil offence, not a crime.

    I completely agree David. The situation *outside* the stadium was out of control by 3:30pm. I'm a big supporter of the police, and don't envy their job, but I don't understand how they can blame the stadium when the issues were outside and didn't become a stadium issue until much later (and, yes, the stadium staff weren't able to stop it but, by that time, it would have taken an army).
