Apply via general sale or travel club?

I have a no caps and I have applied through the travel club for England tickets,my question is will I be better applying via the general sale as I have no caps?

Again, this question is answered by the FA’s Euro 2020 FAQ.

‘In the event that the member's ticket allocation is oversubscribed, no tickets will be allocated to Travel Club members who have not attended a single England match in the 2018-2020 membership period. If the member's allocation is under-subscribed for a match, those members on zero (0) caps will be allocated a ticket (providing the category selection is available).
We recommend that members on 0 caps apply for category 1 or 2 tickets to increase their chances of being successful.’

    www.thefa.com/.../euro-2020-faqs

You’ll be extraordinarily fortunate to get any tickets through the FA as you’ll be relying on a large number of members with caps not applying for tickets. Literally thousands of them. See Matthew Isle’s cap table for more information on numbers.

Applying for England tickets through the Travel Club

The rules of the Travel Club say that no tickets will be awarded to members who have not been to any cap-earning matches in the 2018-20 campaign unless every applicant who has been to such a match has had their ticket request fulfilled.

    Our ticket allocations are :-

    12000 Group matches
5000  Round of 16 and Quarter Final
    10500 Semi Final
    11000  Final

As of midnight last night, there were 14526 members who had at least 2 caps (evidence they've been to a match since the World Cup) and 5091 members on 0-1 caps.

Therefore, for you to stand a chance of a ticket, you need :-
either (a) a lot of people in the 14526 not to apply for tickets,
or (b) you apply for category 1 and hope that other people are put off by the price.

Applying for England tickets not through the Travel Club

There is a route into the ticket application system where you declare yourself to be an England fan but you don't have to be in the Travel Club. It is difficult to tell what tickets will be available through this route. The ticketing T&Cs include this article :-

3.8. An Applicant can submit a Request via the Ticket Portal for:

    b. PNA Allocation Tickets which will be open during the PNA Allocation Window(s). In addition to these Terms and Conditions, each PNA may also impose its PNA Allocation Rules which each Applicant must comply with. During the PNA Allocation Window:

    i. the applicable PNA may elect to offer priority to PNA Allocation Tickets to its PNA Members on a FCFS Basis and/or via a Ticket Draw;

ii. the applicable PNA may elect to offer priority to its PNA Allocation Tickets to its PNA Members (for example via an Access Code or by way of data validation) to complete a purchase on a FCFS Basis; and

iii. if there are still PNA Allocation Tickets available after any PNA Member priority window detailed in Articles 3.8bi and 3.8bii has closed, these remaining Tickets shall be available to PNA Fans via a Ticket Draw,

Looking at sub-paragraph iii. it looks as though the tickets available through this route might be just those which were unsold in the ESTC sale. If this is the case then, given that you have already paid your Travel Club membership fee, there is absolutely no advantage to be gained by applying for tickets through this route.

    Applying for neutral tickets

You can also enter the ticket portal registered as a supporter of 'Other'. Again, we have no information on which tickets will be available through this route. My guess is that it will be the tickets from last summer's general public lottery which did not sell. There is no certainty as to whether this sale will include any England tickets or what category they might be. But, just work out which matches and categories might have been popular in the summer sale and scotch them from your expectations.

    In reply to David Lilley:

So David you think that there is little point applying in the general sale for England Group Games, Dublin & Coppenhagen R16, Rome & St Petersberg QFs, both Wembley SF & the final? Seems like all of these matches would have already been in high demand in the summer sale and will also have high demand from the ESTC sales..

    In reply to George Smith:

I don't have an inside track with the FA or UEFA. Much of what I post is inference and members do need to use their own judgement to see whether they agree before letting it influence their decisions.

Fact : All of the blurb from UEFA said that there was only going to be one sale period for the general public in June / July 2019.

Inference : All tickets for the general public sale will have been made available last June / July. No tickets will have been held back for a future general public sale.

Fact : People are now being told that the general public can apply for tickets in the December 2019 sales window.

Inference : UEFA didn't sell all of their tickets in the summer sale. The tickets on offer will be those which were not bought in the summer. These will probably be mainly category 1 and / or for less popular venues.

Fact : The December sale period is for the 20 teams which have qualified for the finals tournament. Tickets available in this sale are being placed under the control of the 20 national FAs, who will distribute them to registered fans according to the rules of their supporters' clubs.

Fact : Unregistered supporters of the 20 teams can apply for tickets through a different portal.

Inference : The tickets available to unregistered supporters will be those which were not sold by the FAs to their registered fans. There might not be any such tickets. If there are any tickets, they are likely to be category 1.

George, in your own case, you have 8 caps. If you are in the Travel Club then I would say you have a good chance of some tickets, not necessarily all that you apply for, if you apply for category 2 with a willingness to be upgraded to category 1.
