Update: caps policy for ESTC members

Posted by Team England at 09:29 on Wednesday 13 July 2016

Following the launch of the 2016-2018 England Supporters Travel Club membership we would like to remind members of the caps policy for attending England matches.

Update:

We are currently in the process of updating the caps table and each individual's caps level - please do not contact us regarding the table as it can take time. Renewal caps will be applied in due course and please also be aware that caps are not awarded for tournament matches

News story:

Members of the England Supporters Travel Club earn caps for attending England games both home and away, with two caps awarded for each game attended.

Members can see their position on the caps table here but are advised that, as the cap system runs on a maximum four year rolling basis, any caps earned prior to the 2014 Brazil World Cup will become ‘inactive’ shortly after July 11 2016.

The caps system is in place to ensure that, should tickets to England away games and tournament matches be oversubscribed, they will be distributed as fairly as possible and on the following basis; 70% of tickets will be awarded to fans at the top of the caps table, with the rest of the tickets going to a ballot.

If you purchase tickets to an England home game during the members sale, you will be able to assign a FAN number to each ticket purchased, this will ensure that the caps are awarded automatically to each account upon attendance each match.

For tickets purchased outside the members sale you will need to ensure that all FAN numbers in the order are correctly assigned to the tickets by emailing us the details, otherwise caps will not be awarded. If FAN numbers are not assigned before a match has taken place, caps can still be claimed up to 21 days after the match by submitting an email request to englandsupportersclub@thefa.com, enclosing the order number and/or image of the ticket stub for the relevant game. Fans are reminded that caps can only be claimed for tickets purchased directly through The England Supporters Club and The FA.

Why don't we keep all our caps as a seasoned member surely I should take priority over someone that's only been going 4 years

@Michael Jordan - mine were added a couple of weeks ago, so it's worth you contacting the FA to chase it up.

@Keith Hughes - if everyone's caps carried over forever & ever, it would become a closed club with new members rarely able to get tickets for even moderate allocation tickets. I think it's a pretty fair system all in all.

Why no renewal cap? Also considering the tournament we have just had how about awarding caps for the games. The argument has always been that tournament tickets are the reward for loyalty over the qualifying campaign. Following Brazil & France I am not feeling terribly "rewarded"

Having (yes I know very sadly) read the latest blurb issued by the F.A. for membership renewal under

Section 6.4 - Caps it states quite clearly that

"• One cap will be awarded to any Member that renews their membership from the 2014-2016 campaign."

All renewal caps should be kept as they do reward long term loyalty without penalising new members.

didn't realise the job of England was to "reward" the supporters @PhilipKilkenny. We all have the same choice to either contiune supporting or not. Personal choice is what its all about...

I think it is a liberty to expect Fans to pay every 2 years for the opportunity to buy tickets for away games. Once you have bought a membership it should stay for life.

Especially galling after such a dreadful performance in France.

Paul - It used to be double caps for away games but the FA are so desperate to fill Wembley they have decided traveling to a home game merits the same rewards as traveling all over Europe. Comes back to one thing as always - Money

    1. Steve Devine thinks it a liberty we should have to pay every two years for membership, I agree, but perhaps after the initial membership subscription there is a minimal subscription (about £10) for each campaign.

    2. Are renewal caps subject to the same lifespan as ticket/match caps?

    3. When do you update the caps table?

    4. Do you read these replies?

I hope and trust that ESTC will complete the updating of caps before they run any ballot for Slovakia tickets.

Also, whilst I understand and accept that only caps for the current and previous campaigns should be 'active', I suggest that past renewal caps should never lapse unless you leave the ESTC.
