EURO 2020

UEFA EURO 2020

Credit where it is due

Not sure the stewards at Wembley have been on a charm course recently but thought they were all excellent on Sunday especially the ones doing the Covid and ticket activations

It makes such a difference (not just at Wembley but everywhere) when stewards have default positions of smiling and being helpful rather than miserable and stern. Almost all the stewards I encountered or witnessed on Sunday clearly enjoyed the tournament atmosphere, especially the ones operating the barriers at the bottom of the Wembley steps (the ones checking the covid status and activating your ticket)

I did see one frustrating incident at the entrance of block 112 where an older fan (probably in his 50s) was pulled out by the stewards briefly, eventually he was being spoken to by two stewards who seemed to deal with it perfectly, calling the situation, and eventually allowing him to retake his seat. I’m not sure what the issue was but one steward seemed to have a real issue with him, lots of pointed fingers and aggressive gestures, whilst the other two stewards were brilliant and trying to keep the fan and angry steward apart.

Otherwise though, it did feel a completely different experience to the usual Wembley stewarding

    In reply to Oliver Pearman:

I think sunshine makes a massive difference. Can't be much fun stewarding at Wembley in the middle of November. Compared to Sunday when the sun was shining and it wasn't freezing/raining!
