Mobile tickets

Wondering if anyone can shed any light on this. I’ve read a few posts about not having compatible devices for tickets etc, as a lead applicant can you keep your groups tickets on one phone? Even in the event someone’s phone dies or would a screenshot work?

    All of the tickets in your order will be delivered to the lead booker via a mobile phone app. The lead booker must download the app and then register to use it. The personal details submitted when he registers will include his email address and this is the flag or identifier which tells the UEFA computer which tickets to download to him.

    The lead booker will need access to a compatible smart phone : an iPhone or Android phone, but it doesn't necessarily have to be his phone. It could be the phone of another member of his party.

    The lead booker then transfers the other people's tickets to their smart phones using a 'transfer' option in the app. This step is optional. It is perfectly OK to leave their tickets on his phone if they do not have a smart phone. It just means that, at the turnstile, the phone will have to be passed between members of the group.

    Note that the UEFA computer keeps an audit trail of transfers. So, potentially, UEFA will know if anyone tries to transfer a ticket to someone who was not a guest named on the original application.

    As far as I know, you cannot have the same ticket resident on more than one phone to cover the risk that your battery might go flat.

    A screenshot of the ticket will not work at the turnstile. The tickets are delivered to the phone of the lead booker without a QR code. This code is added by stewards outside the stadium using a hand held device which connects to your phone through the app using bluetooth connectivity. The ticket has to be displayed within the app in order for the QR code to be added, which is why a screenshot is no good.

    If no one in your party has a compatible phone then you should contact UEFA. You will need to persuade them to allow you to collect paper tickets from the stadium on match day. The experience of members at the Nations League, where this system was used, was that UEFA will take some convincing !

    I attend games regularly with my adult son and my mate. When my son cant go because of work etc my mate uses his ticket. obviously at no charge. Having been successful in the ballot for nearly all games am I right in thinking I couldn't transfer the ticket to his device when my son cant make it.

    Transferring the ticket to someone who is not your original guest would be against the ticketing T&Cs.

    There are two options for guest tickets within the app : 'transfer' and 'keep'. If you press 'keep' then you must key in the details of your original guest and his ticket remains on your phone. You then go in together and pass the phone between you.

    Say for instance Chris’s son can’t make it and his mate goes. Do you think they’d check at the turnstile. I can’t imagine they would as it would mean checking a lot of people’s ID

    Does anyone know about the tickets ordered in the first public phase will they be paper tickets or is that only for "other" fans?

    My mate (non EF) member got some England and Netherlands tickets and would likely have selected that he supports England. Will they be paper or the mobile app?

    Everything that I have seen suggests that tickets bought in the general public sale last summer will be paper tickets whereas tickets bought during the December sale will be delivered by mobile phone app.

    It's never been explained why they are using these 2 different delivery methods but each method has its advantages in certain circumstances.

    All tickets sold last summer were unconditional. So, there's no reason why they can't all be printed and delivered by courier in advance of the tournament.

    Some of the tickets sold in December were conditional. Paper conditional 'tickets' would have to be exchanged for paper 'real' tickets after each knock out match. There would need to be manned ticket exchange locations in each host city. On the other hand, mobile phone tickets can be sent immediately to your phone once a conditional ticket becomes unconditional because your team has qualified for a particular knock out match. This is a big administrative advantage for mobile phone tickets.

    This ability of mobile phone tickets to be delivered instantly will also be a huge advantage when spare tickets come on the market at short notice. This will happen during the knock out stage of the competition. For example, for the R16 matches, UEFA must reserve 5000 seats x 2 at each venue for the participating teams. If a team which only sold 3000 R16 tickets qualifies to play at that venue then UEFA will release 2000 unconditional tickets for sale at very short notice.

    So, why not use the mobile phone delivery method for all tickets ? Perhaps it's the volume of tickets involved. As things stand, no match will involve more than 24000 mobile phone tickets (12000 allocation x 2 teams). This will place an upper limit on the number of stewards and hand held activation devices needed outside each stadium. If all tickets were delivered by mobile phone UEFA would need a massively larger team of stewards and many more hand held devices. Presumably, someone would have done a cost / benefit analysis and decided that 100% mobile phone tickets is not the optimum solution.

    When this system was trialed at the Montenegro game, I didnt present my phone to a stewart, yet my ticket was still valid & I entered without a problem. How this happened Im note sure. I think I read on here that this was the same for someone else.

    That's weird. I wonder what the range is for those hand held activation devices. Is it possible that you were near a steward just as he was trying to activate someone else's ticket and the device linked up to your phone instead ?

    I was quite near to a steward as I came up the ramp. Couldnt the tickets be actvated automatically over bluetooth?

    I never presented my phone to a steward either, and tried to enter the stadium without any luck.

    Whilst scratching my head, and contemplating making my way back to the ramp my ticket all of a sudden became active.

    Tried again, and bingo it let me gain access.

    For the Montenegro game my experience as a lead booker was slightly different.

    As the lead booker I only received my own ticket, and my father (who was also on my booking) was required to download his ticket onto a smartphone before it could then be transferred to me.

    As he didn't have a smartphone at the time I ended up having to use a friend's phone to download the second ticket before then sending over to my phone. A rather convoluted process as I also needed access to my father's email in order to go through the confirmation checks that are needed when logging into the app as him on a friend's phone. 

    A minor difference, but if its the one used for the games this year it means that you can't simply rely on the lead booker having a smart phone - some advance planning is needed to transfer tickets.

    From reading the forums around the Montenegro game it seems like this was a change from the Nations League finals system, when all tickets did go to the lead booker.

    If my theory is anywhere near correct, then mobile phone ticketing for the Italy and Denmark matches will follow the Montenegro pattern but, for the Euro 2020 matches in the summer, it will be like the Nations League again.

    The ticketing T&Cs talk about tickets being "delivered to Successful Applicants in the following ways ..... ". The T&Cs don't talk about tickets being delivered to guests. Also, there is a section stating that Successful Applicants may transfer tickets to their guests. These phrases might not be conclusive, but they do imply that all tickets will be delivered to the lead applicant.

    Or maybe it was a cunning way of finding out what proportion of the fan base have compatible smart phones by counting the number of mobile phone tickets which were transferred. This would tell UEFA how much of a problem they might have in the summer in terms of how many fans allocated mobile phone tickets will need alternative paper tickets.
