World Cup: Christmas update

Posted by Team England at 15:40 on Wednesday 20 December 2017

The World Cup FAQ page on the England Supporters Club website has been updated with information regarding applications for Russia and the FAN ID

Based on the queries we have been receiving from members since applications opened on 5 December, the FAQs below have now been added to the website. We will endeavour to update the page as soon as further information is made available to us and hope to add in details regarding allocations and category splits in the New Year.

Why is my name and fan number not being recognised on the FIFA website when applying for tickets?

If you have only just joined the Travel Club, please be aware that you will need to allow 72hrs between upgrading your membership and submitting an application with FIFA. If, after the 72hrs you are having problems please ensure that you are submitting exactly the same details that are on your Travel Club membership. For example, if your name on your Travel Club memberships is showing as 'Chris' but your full name is 'Christopher', please enter your name on the FIFA website as 'Chris'.

How long will it take for me to receive my FAN ID?

Once you have been allocated a ticket and have applied for a FAN ID, it can take about a month to arrive via post. Alternatively, you can have your FAN ID sent to a visa collection centre. For more information, please visit: https://www.fan-id.ru/help.html.

How can I find out information about the free transport offered with the FAN ID?

Visit https://tickets.transport2018.com/free-train/schedule for information about the free rail services around Russia during the tournament to reserve your ticket. Please be aware that the current timetable advertised is subject to change and further services will be added by the Russian authorities at later dates.

Hi Team England. There are a couple of major issues where we really could benefit from the intervention of the FA on behalf of the fans. Would you help us please ?

Hotel Prices : The Russian authorities have imposed limits on hotel prices in the World Cup host cities during the tournament. But fans booking their accommodation are finding that these limits are being largely ignored. The problem will not be solved by individual fans pointing out these limits to individual hotels and being told to go forth and multiply. We need heavyweight high level intervention with the Russian government from the FA, FIFA or the Foreign & Commonwealth Office.

Free Trains: Places on the free trains are allocated on a first come first served basis. But an application cannot be made until a fan has received the FIFA 'your application has been successful' email. For fans who apply for tickets through the FA, this email will not be received until mid-February. However, fans who have entered the booking system report that most trains are already nearly full. This is not fair. Can nothing be done to hold back a reserve of free train places until February ?

David - The FA cannot do anything regarding the issues you have raised. In terms of accommodation prices will always be high in the first month after the draw due to demand. As the months go on, they will drop in price and more rooms become available.

Hi, Daniel. Hotel prices are limited by Russian law during the World Cup. These limits are not advisory, they are mandatory. Some hotels are ignoring the limits. The FA, through FIFA and the FCO, could put pressure on the Russian government to enforce the limits. Supply and demand doesn't come into it. It's the law - their law.

The following is a translation of the decree signed by Prime Minister Medvedev on 10 February 2016 limiting hotel prices. Some hotels are breaking the law and attempting to rip off the fans.

Decision of 10 February 2016 No. 89. The maximum cost of hotel services in places of accommodation from the category "five stars" to the category "without stars" is established in the territories of the subjects of the Federation where the sports competitions of the Championship and the Confederations Cup will be held.

    Decision of 10 February 2016 No. 89

Decision of February 10, 2016 No. 89 in the current version

Prepared by the Ministry of Culture of Russia in pursuance of paragraph 34 of the plan of measures for the implementation of the Federal Law "On the preparation and holding in the Russian Federation of the FIFA 2018 FIFA World Cup, the FIFA Confederations Cup 2017 and amendments to certain legislative acts of the Russian Federation" (approved by the Government of 29 July 2013 No. 1333-r, then, respectively, the Federal Law, the Championship, the Confederation Cup).

The signed resolution establishes the maximum cost of hotel services in the places of accommodation from the category "five stars" to the category "without stars" in the territories of the subjects of the Federation (the Republics of Mordovia and Tatarstan, Krasnodar Territory, Moscow and St. Petersburg, Volgograd, Sverdlovsk, Kaliningrad, Nizhny Novgorod, Rostov and Samara region), in which the sports competitions of the Championship and the Confederations Cup will be held, during the period of these competitions taking into account the planned load (the number of state and fans) to cities and pricing for hotel services.

The maximum cost of hotel services was calculated taking into account the average cost of hotel services on the territory of the subject of the Federation in 2015, the indicators of the forecasted level of inflation, the coefficient reflecting the increased demand for hotel services during the entertainment events.
