EURO 2020

UEFA EURO 2020

Category splits

Announcement made today says all Wembley games under subscribed only advice given regards Wembley is for fans first being over subscribed..looks to me that cat 3 for groups is oversubscribed 7880  applied for cat 3  50% of 12000 = 6000 - 30% leaves 4200 for those in the 70% guaranteed a tick in cat 3 I know they said we could get over 50% but even so ? Last 16 and q/f under 5000 applied over the 3 category’s so far , suppose people are going to miss out if they pick wrong category am I right here ok both instances .

    I agree.

Regarding the 44 caps / 35 caps situation, I don't feel comfortable about giving advice that appears to be at odds with what the FA bulletin says. But, according to the Travel Club T&Cs :-

Members with the highest caps totals will be given priority to receive their price preference for UEFA EURO 2020™ tickets, subject to permissions being granted by UEFA.

The obvious way of achieving this is by starting with the successful applicants who have the most caps and then working down the caps table. Each person is granted their first choice of category or, if that's not available, the adjacent category. If this is how it's done, then anyone will be able to use Matthew Isle's caps table and the table of category splits to accurately assess which category they need to apply for.

If preference for higher cappers is not achieved in this way, then how do they do it ?

Thanks David. By my understanding of the table my 2 on 31 caps needs there too be 4K + tickets to be guaranteed. There isn’t 4K tickets between cat 3 and cat 2 for the round of 16 game. Or am I misunderstanding something mate?

What would happen to any unbought tickets would be a guess though as that would need to be agreed by UEFA and the ESTC team.

I get the sense from some ESTC members on FB that they will ditch the entire application if the tickets are too expensive. With some (wrongly) believing that they'll be able to pick and choose on games they've successful in.

I wonder if that'll be made even more so post Christmas overspend.

Fingers crossed the FA get to perform a pseudo 'Second sale' type of exercise for those next in line for those untaken before UEFA have the chance to give them to the general public.

    Matthew Isle

For those of you intending to apply, who haven't applied yet, I'd definitely encourage you to do so soon so that UEFA and the ESTC team can help us to help ourselves.

Definitely worth bumping this message so that the ESTC are able to give us some updates accurate information before the cutoff

    In reply to Lee Gibson:

You have to look at the question in 2 steps.

Step 1 : According to Matthew's latest table, England's allocation needs to be at least 4116 in order for your 2 mates on 31 caps to be guaranteed a place in the 70%. As our allocations are 4806 (R16) and 5016 (QF), then your mates are in the top 70% and therefore, subject to choosing their category carefully, they are guaranteed a ticket.

Step 2 : When the FA allocate successful applicants to categories, they will start with the highest cappers and work down the caps table. There are 2881 members on 31 caps and above. So, the FA can't have allocated more than 2881 tickets by the time they get down the list to your mates. There are 3380 tickets in categories 2 and 3 combined for the R16 and 4264 for the QF, so there must be some left when its the turn of your mates to be allocated ticket categories.

Great point Matthew. Be good to get the Travel Club guys to confirm what will happen with those tickets, if any.

I'm a bit surprised about the quarter final being oversubscribed tbh. I thought the prospect of having to get to Rome or Russia at short notice would put plenty off. On 20 caps I think I'll be struggling for the last 16 and quarter final now.

Cat 1s will never afford you as much chance as selecting cat 2 and accepting other cats (i.e. 3 and 1).

This way you are saying you'll accept 1,2 or 3.

Your way you're limiting yourself to just cat 1 (and cat 2 if you've ticked the box).

I'm a bit confused as what to do after today's email update.

On 10 caps...going for group games plus semi & Final. It says to move to cat 2 if on or under 10 caps but does this mean I should leave my application on cat 3 for these and leave the box ticked to move up/down one? Or should I put cat 2 with option to move and up and down. From the figures quoted on allocations I think I'd be pretty unlucky not to make cat 3 as we have 7,880 for each group game. And current figures suggest 10 caps is in top 8,315 with it being unlikely that everyone in that 8,315 would apply?

For final and semi - it looks like I would have to accept cat 2 but should I leave as cat 3 (with option to move) and hope less than 7,100 odd apply for these? Or should I put as cat 2 with option to move up and down? Some advice for someone applying for tournament through ESTC for 1st time would be appreciated as I want to be guaranteed tickets for these games if possible but also try and avoid paying cat 2 prices (not sure if possible?!)

    In reply to Alex Bones:

You are forgetting that only 70% are allocated to the top cappers, and I suspect the cut off will be around 10 caps, if not higher especially for the semi and final if we get there. If everybody applies there would have to be a ballot for the remaining 70% allocation tickets amongst the 10 cappers, and then anybody unsuccessful would then go into a further ballot with anybody that has got at least a cap.
Logically if you apply for Cat 3 with option to go up you will stand a very good chance of getting tickets, although obviously you will have a much better chance if you apply for Cat 2 and tick to go up to cat 1 if necessary as very few will be prepared to pay €185 for a group game or the eyewatering figures for the semi final and final. I personally would leave your application unchanged as I wouldn’t be prepared to pay the cat 1 prices, as it seems silly to pay that much when you are likely, but not 100% certain to get tickets at a lower price
