England to face Switzerland & USA

Posted by Team England at 11:00 on Wednesday 18 April 2018

England have finalised their 2018 autumn schedule with the confirmation of two home internationals against Switzerland and the USA.

The matches will complement the new UEFA Nations League programme with the Three Lions facing home and away dates with Croatia and Spain in the inaugural national-team competition. Switzerland will visit on Tuesday 11 September, with the venue yet to be decided, while the United States fixture on Thursday 15 November will take place at Wembley Stadium.

The Swiss have been regular visitors to England with the most recent trip being during Euro 2016 qualifying in September 2015 when goals from Harry Kane and Wayne Rooney settled a 2-0 victory for the hosts. The last meeting with the U.S in England came in May 2008 when John Terry and Steven Gerrard scored in a 2-0 home win.

Following the 2018 FIFA World Cup, the Nations League programme gets under way on Saturday 8 September, with Spain heading to Wembley for a 7.45pm kick-off. Gareth Southgate’s team will then travel to Croatia on Friday 12 October before the return trip to Spain on Monday 15 October. Both these fixtures will also kick-off at 7.45pm UK time.

After the U.S date, the 2018 match calendar will conclude with Croatia at Wembley for a 2pm kick-off on Sunday 18 November.

Kick-off times and tickets details will be released in due course.

Anfield Etihad or St James would be nice for the Switzerland game!

So no other aways this year except Croatia (which is likely to be closed doors) and Spain? Thats awful. One of these two should have been away.

Disappointed there's no away friendly given Croatia is behind closed doors. Also as others have said... a confirmed venue for Spain away would be nice!

To be fair to our FA, the selection and announcement of a venue for the Spain away game is entirely down to the Spanish FA. There's nothing our FA can do to hurry it up. Under UEFA regulations, there is a deadline for the selection (but not for the announcement) but we're not at that deadline yet.

From what i have seen and read the general consensus is of disappointment at more HOME matches. I can only agree that i would av loved a nice trip away to Sweden, Portugal, or even away from Europe. Even though im from the South lets hope the Switerland match is given to a North of England as everyone should be given easy access to England matches and when Wembley was being built the atmospheres around the country was amazing.
