UEFA Nations League: UEFA Statement

Posted by Team England at 14:31 on Tuesday 30 January 2018

UEFA has today issued the following statement regarding England's UEFA Nations League fixture against Croatia on Friday 12 October 2018

UEFA can confirm that the UEFA Nations League group stage match between Croatia and England scheduled for 12 October 2018 will be played behind closed doors. This relates back to a decision taken by the UEFA Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body on 23 July 2015 which ordered the Croatian Football Federation (HNS) to play its next two home matches in UEFA competition without supporters in the stadium.

Gareth Southgate's team kick-off their UEFA Nations League campaign with a home match against Spain on Saturday 8 September with the first away match of the campaign against Croatia the following month.

The decision to play the match behind closed doors has been made by UEFA who advised us today. Further information will be provided on their website here as it is confirmed.

Lovely of UEFA to wait a week to tell us about a decision they made 30 months ago.  I hope the FA express in the strongest possible terms their disgust with this delay.

What an absolute shambles, dragging out this long and then announcing it six days after the draw! Obviously reumbursement of all incurred costs is the minimum requirement (I hadn’t booked an outbound fligt but had booked an onward flight from Zagreb to Barcelona). Surely though the FA should push for England fans to be able to attend. We shouldn’t be punished for something that was nothing to do with us, and with us all being registered I see no reason it can’t quite easily be controlled as ‘away fans only’.

Whilst I don’t think it’s the FA’s fault, they were probably unaware as well hopefully they can get Away fans in. Serbia played Northern Ireland behind closed doors but Away fans were allowed in.

Yes, having seen the Northern Ireland precedent the FA need to push for this.  At a time when so many of us are shelling out thousands on the world cup it really would be good of the FA to fight our corner on this (even if it wasn't their fault in the first instance).

It really is unbelievable that UEFA didn’t see fit to mention this any sooner. Flights and accommodation booked. I haven’t yet booked the flight out of Zagreb to Spain as I was waiting for ground confirmation, but seemingly that’s least of my issues!

I’m sure those that have booked up would really appreciate the FA doing all they can to sort away fans entry to the ground.

Again like most fellow regulars. Me and my wife had all flights and hotels booked within 15 mins of the fixtures coming out. No mention then. We need to push for away fans to attend. Especially those who have spent money so far to get there.  After all its not cheep to go.   We have seen Irish fa do this recently and also uefa club competitions.    A push to uefa is required.     Isn't this supposed to be football for all

It would be bad enough if the Croatia away match were in a double header with a home game. We could contemplate just not going to Croatia and writing off the cost. But, pairing it with an away game in Spain, many people have arranged a 3 legged journey. So, we're stuck with going to Zagreb in order to catch our flight to Spain. How could UEFA be so negligent in not warning people of the 'closed doors' ruling at the time the fixture list was issued !

That's a lot of money down the drain on flights. Absolute joke.

So we are meant to know about UEFA statements that aren’t even on their website, and hear only from our own FA now about a future statement that is yet to be posted. My ESP isn’t that good!

Very disappointing having booked flights to Zagreb. But this is just one of many examples of football fans being treated in a disgraceful manner, surely UEFA have been negligent to fans?

Why are English fans being punished for another teams actions? Why not just allow away fans into the stadium?

The FA must have been unaware of this as their original post for the confirmed draw says tickets will be available for all four matches.

I’m not fully versed with the relevant laws, but surely there is a clear lack of responsibility here on behalf of the FA, the Croatian FA and mainly UEFA.

I wonder if all supporters out of pocket could forge together to issue some form of legal case against the three negligent parties.

Is there anyone out there with the legal knowledge. I’m not prepared to lose out on c£300 here due to the total lack of care and responsibility towards us supporters.

And another thing, the FA are quick to jump all over loyal members and dish out bans and threats over insignificant matters, yet they conveniently don’t answer to people’s frustrations on here.

Amazing how they only seem to police the forum when it suits them. For once, actually provide us customers (how you treat us) with the relevant support
