Scotland v England security update

Posted by Team England at 08:39 on Thursday 08 June 2017

The England Supporters Travel Club would like to provide a safety update to fans travelling to the Scotland v England match this Saturday 10 June.

Travel Club members are advised that there will be increased security measures at Hampden Park stadium which may result in delays entering the stadium. Fans should expect to be searched at the cordons of Aikenhead Road, Prospecthill Road, Mount Annan Drive, Somerville Drive and Letherby Drive with additional bag searches at the turnstiles.

We have been advised by The SFA and Police Scotland that gates will open at 3pm and together we are encouraging fans to arrive early to ensure that they take their seats before kick-off.

Police Scotland will be enforcing the laws banning the drinking of alcohol on a bus/coach and to ensure the safety of all fans travelling to the game. Members are reminded that the laws in relation to drinking in public places and the carrying of alcohol on buses and coaches is different in Scotland than in England – for more information, please refer to the Travel Guide here: https://englandsupporters.thefa.com/b/news/archive/2017/05/28/scotland-v-england-travel-guide . We have been advised by Police Scotland that there is a no-tolerance policy in operation and those found to be breaking the law will be charged and reported to the Procurator Fiscal.

Armed police officers will be deployed at Hampden Park stadium and more British Transport Police officers will be placed at train stations around the country. For further travel and security advice and emergency contact details, please visit the Police Scotland website here.

Together with The SFA, we have requested to UEFA that a minute’s silence be observed prior to kick-off to pay tribute to the victims of the recent atrocities in Manchester and London.

FOLLOW ENGLAND AWAY IN THE RIGHT WAY

The FA has consistently urged supporters to show respect and not chant songs that could be regarded as insulting to others, particularly from a religious or political perspective. In light of recent behaviour, this message needs to be proactively reinforced.

Police Scotland have stated that fans should avoid behaving in any way which could be deemed aggressive, abusive or disorderly.  All reports of such behaviour will be dealt with by the authorities swiftly on a case by case basis.

Members are reminded that if they witness any xenophobic, racist, sectarian, sexist or anti-social behaviour before or during the match, they can report it in confidence by emailing englandsupportersclub@thefa.com or by calling or texting us on 0797 0146 250.

Will fans need to show a match ticket at the cordon ? If so, this would make it impossible to collect your ticket from the booth outside the stadium if you miss the 2:30 deadline for the city centre collection point.

Good point David. EF can you clarify the situation for people attempting to collect ticket from stadium?

I had no plans to go into Glasgow and was always going to collect at the the stadium. Hope that I still can.

We have been advised by The SFA and Police Scotland that the checks at the cordons are for bags. If you need to collect your ticket from the stadium you will still be able to do so but we would encourage members to arrive in good time and collect their ticket in advance of kick-off
