Sam Allardyce's England reign to kick off with Slovakia trip

Posted by Team England at 17:01 on Friday 29 July 2016

Sam Allardyce’s first game in charge of England will be the 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Slovakia.

The FA explored the possibility of a friendly fixture at Wembley Stadium on 1 September, but new manager Allardyce is keen to use that time to get to know his players ahead of the trip to Trnava.

The Three Lions face Slovakia on Sunday 4 September at the City Arena with a kick-off time of 6pm local time.

Well that premature match announcement has cost me lots of ££££'s. Formal complaint on its way!

This is so typical of our dopey FA ............... I had/have a room booked at Stanstead that night as we are flying to Slovakia on the Friday anyway - I for once, was happy to see a game at Wembley put in there ! Feel for everyone like Andrew above who`ve booked something for it  :-(

Thanks Sam will you now pay for my train ticket. Another £40 wasted on travel to go watch England play or should I say not play this with the knockout stages in France I am down on a lot of money on unused travel tickets. I accepted France as it was always a risk. This wasn't a risk, loyalty is taken for granted and as a member of almost 12 years this is an all time low.

Not Sam's fault, the FA shouldn't have announced it prematurely! At least it shows he won't let the suits walk all over him

Call me a cynic but just possibly the FA were spooked by the prospect of an empty Wembley with disgruntled fans voting with their feet after the shambolic exit from the Euros and didn't want Sam's reign getting off to a negative start? At least this way England are guaranteed positive backing from the 1700 away supporters who always give them 100% in Slovakia? Or probably its cos Sam wants to spend more time with the squad like they said....hmmm
