England v Russia: Marseille Guide

Posted by Team England at 18:45 on Wednesday 08 June 2016

England v Russia, 11 June 2016.

Marseille
Population: 860,363

Marseille is visited by more than five million people every year. Dubbed ‘2016’s coolest destination’ by the press, France’s oldest city has established a reputation as a dynamic and outward-looking metropolis.

UEFA have provided information to us for each host city – and with England v Russia first up for England’s EURO 2016 campaign, Marseille is our new feature.

Security
Please visit the governments fans safety initiative Be on the Ball for all security and travel advice which can be found here.

Gates open
If you are a ticket holder, you will be able to access the stadium 6pm French time, please arrive early as long queues are expected due to extra security checks.

Fan Zone
Each host city has committed to providing a Fan Zone where supporters are able to gather before each match for free. The size and scope vary from city to city but the Marseille Fan Zone boasts a capacity of 80,000 – as many people as the Stade de France can. Located by the seafront at the Plages du Prado, all 45 matches at the tournament will be broadcast on its big screen.

Ticket office/FA Base
The Radisson Blu hotel near the old port will be where the FA ticket office is based.

Getting around
Transport within Marseille consists of Metro lines 1 and 2, two tram lines and a comprehensive bus network. Tickets can be bought at stations or on the bus; a multi-trip ticket offers the best value. From March to September, two 'batobus' shuttle ferry lines connect the Old Port to the outlying districts of Estaque to the north and Pointe-Rouge to the south with a 40-minute journey time.

A city of passion and football, Marseille was a European Capital of Culture in 2013 and organises thousands of cultural and sporting events throughout the summer. And no visit to Marseille would be complete without seeing the beaches and the spectacular rocky inlets that punctuate the city’s 57km of coastline.

Surely this match is on 11th June not 11th July?!!

    Proof-reading is a wonderful thing!

A bit like the lack of proof reading on the renewal message!

Two days to go and still nobody thinks it would be a good idea to show 12,000 people where the entrance is. Expect another clusterfuckx5 on the scale of Alicante.

Now I'm even more confused - I have an email saying to collect my match tickets from the Radisson Blu at the old port, but this says the collection point is next to the stadium! which is it FA?

Really, what is the point if half the information is incorrect and the more important information is missing?

As predicted a complete and utter clusterfuck from beginning to end for the third away game running.  If Islamic terrorists were monitoring the first game for security flaws, they've probably run out of paper to write on. Pathetic.
