England U19s to take on Japan in Manchester next month

Posted by Team England at 14:22 on Wednesday 14 October 2015

England Under-19s will take on Japan in Manchester next month.

The fixture at Manchester City's Academy Stadium will take place at 3pm on Sunday 15 November.

Aidy Boothroyd’s Young Lions will use the match against Far East opposition as preparation for the elite round of qualification for next year’s U19s UEFA European Championship.

Boothroyd said: “We’re looking forward to playing at such a new and impressive stadium, although it will be a familiar venue for a number of the squad.

“It has been tailor-made for development football and some of the lads will be eager to impress in front of a home crowd.

“We have made a name for ourselves by playing an attacking style of football and the high-class playing surface Academy Stadium should really suit us.”

He added: “Japan will provide a strong test of our credentials. They are a developing football nation and with us should put on a good display.”

This month England beat Macedonia and Finland, and drew 0-0 with Italy in the first qualifying round of Euro 2016 to finish top of the group.

The draw for the elite round is on 3 December, with the fixtures played next March and the finals in Germany taking place between 11-24 July.
