Ox says winning the Community Shield is the perfect start

Posted by Team England at 10:38 on Monday 03 August 2015

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain hailed Arsenal's professionalism after they secured victory over Chelsea in the FA Community Shield at Wembley Stadium.

The England winger scored the game's only goal to make it six wins on the bounce under the arch for Arsenal, twice lifting both The FA Cup and the Shield.

Oxlade-Chamberlain told FATV: "We have obviously got a really good record and we wanted to keep that going.

"It's obviously never easy against Chelsea but it was a really professional performance."

Oxlade-Chamberlain's classy effort – a dart in off the right flank, followed by a shimmy and an unstoppable left-footed strike - came in the 24th minute with the game finely poised.

Chelsea had looked dangerous up until then, but they struggled to impose themselves on a solid Gunners XI, and had very few opportunities to equalise.

"After we went 1-0 up we kept them to few chances," he said. "They had quite a lot of the ball and they played some good stuff but they had very few chances and that's the important thing."

Arsenal's victory also broke a 13-game unbeaten run against Chelsea sides under Jose Mourinho.

Oxlade-Chamberlain believes the Gunners will be in a good frame of mind for next Sunday's Premier League opener against West Ham United.

"We'll take the win and it's a nice start to our season one week away from start of the [Premier League].

"We kept the record of winning here going and that's really good mentally."
