Eni Aluko's emotion at SSE Women's FA Cup victory

Posted by Team England at 10:21 on Monday 03 August 2015

Chelsea Ladies forward and Lioness Eni Aluko could not hide her overwhelming joy at lifting the SSE Women’s FA Cup at Wembley on Saturday.

A first-half goal from Ji So-Yun proved enough for the Blues to see off the challenge of Notts County, in front of a record crowd for a domestic women's match on this country.

And player of the match Aluko was overcome with emotion at the final whistle, following Chelsea’s near-misses of glory in recent seasons.

"The overwhelming emotion right now is just relief. It has been a long time coming," admitted the 28-year-old.

"After coming so close last season [to the WSL 1 title] everyone has talked about it, will Chelsea do it? How will we play under pressure? But we certainly played under pressure.

"We were disciplined and got the win."

There was always going to be history made, with both Chelsea and the Lady Pies looking for their first Women’s FA Cup title.

And with this being the first Final to be held at the national stadium, England star Aluko was delighted to be a part of it.

"This is history in the making I couldn't be more proud of this group of players," she added.

"Emma Hayes and her staff work so hard and inspire us each and every day."
