England's 2018 World Cup qualification fixtures decided

Posted by Team England at 11:04 on Sunday 26 July 2015

England road to qualification for the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia has been mapped out following Saturday's draw in St Petersburg.

The fixtures were decided on Sunday using UEFA's approved computerised system, which takes into account a number of factors including travel and domestic competition commitments.

The Three Lions kick off their Group F campaign on 4 September 2016 with an away trip to Slovakia, before taking on Malta at home on 8 October, and travelling to Slovenia three days later.

Fans will be eagerly awaiting 11 November's home clash with Scotland, with the return fixture taking place on 10 June 2017.

England's 10-match qualification concludes with a trip to Lithuania on Sunday 8 October, with the top side guaranteed World Cup qualification.

...and who wants to be driving into London down the M4 / M25 on a Friday night in rush hour! England v Scotland on a Friday night - you are surely having a laugh - I bet the police are really looking forward to that!

What's with the Sunday and Monday fixtures now as well? Makes it really difficult to get the kids there when they have school the next day.

Why do the FA keep supporting these mid week games ....it can be in their commercial interests to have Monday and Thursday night games ... wont get many kids or fans travelling from north of birmingham. Expect they will announce new initiative to make midweek home games 4 capper games !

International games are now played on every day of the week to give every supporter the chance to see a game. In England's case we have qualifiers on 6 different days of the week.
