Austin: Kane 'exceptional'

Posted by Team England at 11:20 on Thursday 12 March 2015

One of Harry Kane’s main rivals for a spot in Roy Hodgson’s England squad has labelled the striker “exceptional”.

QPR forward Charlie Austin was the latest opposition player witness the 21-year-old in fine form, as his side went down 2-1 to Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday, thanks to a brace from Kane.

"Harry Kane has been in exceptional form this season," Austin told paddypower.com.

"He was the difference between us and Tottenham on Saturday – and he is a great example of this self-belief.”

Kane’s double took him to 26 for the season, leading Austin to conclude that when you are in that kind of form you cannot play regularly enough.

"That brace makes it eight goals in six league games and when you're on that run you just want the games to keep coming," he added.

"He's confident going into games, and he's confident when he's front of goal that he's going to score.

"That's the kind of confidence that a striker really wants and it will inevitably benefit the team."

Austin has also enjoyed a prolific season at QPR, with 15 goals in his first season in English football’s top flight.

After a minor dip in form on the turn of the year – during which he scored just once in seven matches – Austin hit back with goals against Hull City and Arsenal.
