Robert Lawson had “always dreamed of going to a World Cup to watch England” and now for the 19-year-old, thanks to winning an England Supporters Club competition, that dream is a reality.

Robert won flights to Sao Paulo, accommodation in a four star hotel and tickets to watch England against Uruguay for himself and one other, after entering the England Supporters Club’s free competition. And after deciding he will fly out to Brazil with his mum he is now counting down the days until he jets off.

“I was ecstatic when I found out,” he said.

“It may be a cliche but I have always dream of going to World Cup and watching England play because I am extraordinarily patriotic so it is a terrific opportunity.”

Robert is a student at the University of Sunderland reading Politics and Sociology and he is expecting big things from Roy Hodgson’s England in Brazil.

It will be the first time he has ever seen the national team play, and the first time he has left Europe so he is expecting a very surreal experience. It feels like a world away at the moment because I don’t get opportunities to do things like this and it really spices up my life,” he added.

“It’s brilliant that I entered a free competition and I have come out with absolutely great prizes and rewards. I feel really lucky and I am so glad that I was picked out the draw. It’s an absolutely unbelievable opportunity and I am so thankful to the FA for setting it up for me.”

Robert has been a big fan of the World Cup for as long as he can remember but his earliest memory is still one of his favourites.

“My first memory of the World Cup is in 2002 watching Brazil play England. I remember Owen scoring the opener in particular because it was an extraordinarily exciting moment and I think we can replicate an excitement like that this time with the team we have got.”

Would have been nice if an actual England fan had won and not one of the many "jonny come lately's". Ah well, enjoy.

May seem annoying but he won and surly everyone who wants to follow England has to start somewhere.

His profile shows he his a young lad.

Maybe like myself he has done many Internationals over the years but never joined the fan club but has now decided to.

    Sounds like some bitter people.

Well considering it says it's the first time he's ever seen the national team play I doubt he's 'done many internationals over the years but never joined the fan club'.
