Getting Started On The ESC Website

Posted by Team England at 14:19 on Wednesday 21 May 2014

England Supporters Club is a friendly community of members who’d love to welcome you to your new online home. But before you get stuck in, take a few minutes to get your head around the site basics and the best ways to introduce yourself and make new friends.

Fill out your profile

Before you start interacting with others, it’s a good idea to fill out some details on your profile that tell the rest of the England Supporters Club community a little bit about you.

To do this, click on grey shadow avatar next to your name at the top right hand side of the page and then on the EDIT PROFILE blue button on the top right hand side of the page. You can then change your profile picture by uploading a photo of yourself or an avatar to represent you

Then fill out the biography, let people know things like your favourite England moment, players (past or present) and the club side you support. You can also enter your contact details and social media details.

Making friends

You can make friends by entering a person's name in the search box in the top right hand side of the page and finding their profile (make sure the blue People button is selected). Hover your mouse over their avatar and select Request Friendship. You can also see who they are friends with by clicking on the Friends tab.

You may soon find that people want to befriend you and send you Private Messages. Feel free to accept these requests if you’re comfortable with it – personal details like your email address won’t show up. But don’t feel obliged to accept friend requests. It’s really up to you whether you want to or not.

Modifying Notifications

By default you will receive notifications by email and live alert of any activity on your forum posts, comments, requests friendship, etc. To modify your settings click on your small avatar next to the left of the search box in the top right hand side of the page and select Settings. Then click on the Notifications tab and uncheck or check the relevant boxes.

Posting in forums

Okay, so you’ve joined the club, filled out your profile and now you’re making a beeline for the forums?

If so it’s a good idea to spend a little time reading over what other people have posted to get a feel for the community and what they’re like before you go crashing in.

Now you should feel like you have a good understanding of what your friends-to-be are like and how well you are all going to get along. That’s great, but where should you start? Don’t feel overwhelmed, just follow these simple steps:

Start off with a forum post just saying ‘hi’, giving a brief introduction. If you get some welcoming comments then make sure you respond to these and show your appreciation. But don’t be put off if you don’t get a response straight away.

Once you’ve built up some forum know-how, start posting some replies to topics where you have something to say in the other forums.

When I view my settings via the "lightning bolt" button, the email address shown for me is wrong (it's an old one). I have updated this elsewhere, via the "Edit my profile" page, and it shows as updated on there - but not on that page, and nor will it allow me to edit it there. A blip on the site that needs fixing please.

How the hell do you renew your membership!!!! Going round and round in circles, want to register for Swizzerland, but can't find anywhere how to renew! NOWHERE on these sites have I found a page to pay my renewal subscription for away travel, but I am told I am a member as I have caps. No email, no nothing.
