EURO 2020

UEFA EURO 2020

Genuine Fans Refused Entry

Absolutely shocking yesterday. Several fans including myself were outright refused entry as they said the stadium had gone into lockdown. Had to stand outside and miss the first 30 minutes until someone let us in. Shambolic. Compensation should be given for this.

Fortunately, we went into the stadium around 5.30pm before all the mayhem occurred. We could see what was happening from the balcony prior to entry into the turnstiles which was appalling. Tighter controls were clearly needed in terms of the first check points. Feel you should be compensated in some form

In reply to Jonathan McConnell :

As we walked up some steps to the ground ( near the hilton hotel ) we had covid passes n tickets out ready to activate and a supervising steward said to a normal steward, stop doing checks and just allow in.
My ticket wasnt activated and and the turnstyle my ticket wouldnt work until a chap behind me did some double tap thing and it then worked.
As we queued a guy said he had laid 750 for a ticket ( paper 1 ) and he said someone pinched his wallet so was trying to sneak in..
I thought it was rubbish cos all tickets bar corporate were electronic tho i may be wrong.

No idea if he got in as we told him hes not coming in with us

Mate, that's terrible. Seek the compensation but don't spend too much time chasing what is likely to be wasted effort. I was in Stanmore having something to eat when my daughter called me to say Wembley Way was carnage suggesting I get there earlier than planned. Luckily I did. I was then having a drink inside the ground with my wife and nephew when the disabled access door was breached. I said to my nephew now is the time to get to his seat because someone else will be sat in it if left much longer - that was around 6:45. As it was, my wife and I had about 1/2 a space each because of the amount of people on our row.

Hi Janes this is terrible. I have seen the shocking scenes people throwing bottles, attacking the azzurri fans etc. They are not football fans but a disgrace

I had the same and couldn't get in. I bought genuine tickets from UEFA via the England Supporters club. When I explained the situation to the guy on the door, having spent an hour in the queue at the ticket office, he just laughed at me. Not a fun night, for what I was hoping was going to be one of the most memorable nights of my life. Any advice on best way to complain and seek compensation?

What time did you arrive Dominic? We got there about 19-20 when all the locals had cleared off Wembley Way..

Got in quite easily although half the queue were made up of people without tickets.

    Thanks Martin, please do!

@Barry, I reckon I arrived at 6.15 queued for an hour for the ticket not to work and then queued for over another hour for the ticket office. And then had to go back and queue again at the ticket office and when that was all done at about 8.45, there was nobody at the gates anymore.

blogs: Graeme Le Saux: adaptability and focus will be key on the Manaus pitch

I’ve played on some shocking pitches in my time – I remember playing for Chelsea in ‘the battle of Stamford Beach’ against Charlton back in 2003 and the condition of the surface can often play into your favour if you’re the home side. There may be a slight advantage for the South and Central American sides, but for England against Italy it is a level playing field – pardon the pun...

blogs: Tim Vickery: Italy’s tropical trials could lend a hand to England

A few days ago I was on the Rio underground when someone came up to me to give me his World Cup predictions. He recognised me from my appearances on Brazilian TV, and he wanted to tell me that there were two teams that were going to spring a surprise in the World Cup: France, and England. Many in Brazil lost patience with England after South Africa 2010. The feeling over here before that tournament was that England...

blogs: David Stone: Not even the mighty Amazon can hold us back

I've been back in England for a few days now and had the chance to reflect on what was yet another cracking away trip with the Three Lions. The Honduras game, as many predicted, was a very tough affair with the referee offering England limited protection against some rather nasty tackles. The result, while disappointing, did not particularly matter to be honest. It was far more important that England had a good...

blogs: Tim Vickery: Protests vie with World Cup feelgood for centre stage in Brazil

Last Sunday I commentated on the match between Italy and Brazilian club side Fluminense, staged in Volta Redonda, a hundred miles or so outside Rio. The match kicked off at 5.30pm in the afternoon. I arrived at the ground six hours earlier - and already there were plenty of supporters gathering. Many of them were Fluminense fans. Others had Italian affiliations. But lots had come (and at the equivalent of nearly £30...
