EURO 2020

UEFA EURO 2020

UEFA shambles - £800 worth of tickets refunded and NO games in ballot.

Absolutely devastated at the news today.

Applied with a friend - me (16 active CAPS, him (11 active CAPS). Allocated every single England game recently refunded £800 give or take each.

Into the ballot and every game unsuccessful except;

We applied together and I’ve been given a Croatia ticket category 2 and he hasn’t. I’m clearly not in the top 70% of cappers, but they’ve allocated me a Croatia ticket and not the other two. He has been UNSUCCESSFUL in ALL group games. How have they decided I’m eligible for a Croatia ticket, but not Scotland or Czech.

Applied together, been screwed together. We are both bitterly disappointed. I’d rather have both of us been unsuccessful than me obtaining ONE out of the possible SIX tickets between us both.

None of it makes any sense and tbh I don’t really want to go to a game on my own. It just defeats the object of going with friends / family and having that special atmosphere.

Can anyone please explain to me ( top top cappers, with a lot of experience of following England for donkeys years) how I have somehow been accepted to one game and not the others?? This ballot seems to be drawn as random as it gets and it’s wholly upsetting after all the summer we have looked forward to for the best part of two years now.

Deflated.

Just to put it into perspective Simon ,
In 2006 Germany I paid £300 for each group game and that’s 15 years ago .

My semi tkt for Russia was £500 ish plus flights back out there so over a grand for 1 game
If this tournament was abroad you’d probably expect to spend a few grand anyway

If it was a follow my team package and you could get the money back if we got knocked it’d be a good offer when you think how much the touts were going to be charging for a tkt outside , especially the Scotland game if it was full attendance

    My thoughts Si:

Be sure this is the final price - i.e. there is no tax to pay on top.

    Be sure they're seated together.

If any of you are business owners speak to your accountant to see if you can legally (and morally) 'entertain others'.

Make sure you know what it does or doesn't include - I.e. beer, food or just a match ticket.

Think about how much (and how difficult with apps) it would be to get tickets sat with all your mates if we got to the semi and final.

Consider when this offer ends. I.e. can you hold on until after the results of the second sale?

Would you get a pro rate refund if we didn't progress?

Would all of your group use the, minimum, two non England matches or be keen to attend the overseas match(es)?

Just like me, you're old and daft enough to be you're own man and won't care too much about what others think.

If you've got the money - why not?

Thanks Matt & Graham. I'm always open to suggestion & advice. The lady who replied to my initial email has now phoned me from Switzerland, but I wasn't free to speak at the time. She's phoning back in an hour & I will have a list of questions of my own, plus the excellent list of yours Matt. Thanks again.
I'll update on here with as many detailed answers as possible.
Subject to those answers, I'll be asking about a group booking discount too. If anyone else would be interested, we can speak about this afterwards. As Graham says above, prices in Germany 2006 were high and in Russia also. An average of £475 per match if we go all the way seems 'reasonable'.
It also feels like UEFA are very keen to sell if they're phoning people directly too. Time for some good old Yorkshire haggling!

Depends how much you want to go to the 2 games that couldn't involve England.....personally I wouldn't....so in effect you would be dividing the total cost by 6 matches....not 8.

That said,if you want to go enough, and its uour only way....then do it.

I remember back in the 70s giving a ticket tout a real rollocking....as I got older and wiser I have come to realise that we actually need them.....some of the tkt allocation systems can be so unfair a tout could be your last resort.

I agree Steve, especially about the touts. We wouldn't have seen the QF or SF in Russia, Argie game in France 98 or loads of other tournament matches over the years, without any touts.
Your 6 match analogy is true also, & there's the gamble of getting knocked out.
It's actually a stadium package, not team specific, so I can't envisage refunds, as matches not involving ourselves, will still go ahead.
If you fancy taking the gamble, and we do, there'll be a 6 seater Transit going from the Meadowhall area for each match!

    In reply to Simon Ostcliffe:

Really - so some remain available, based on the currently applicable attendance limitations?
Not wishing to tempt fate, but as far as you know, if England's glorious progress to a well-earned place in the Final goes wrong at an earlier stage, would a buyer of a package remain committed and entitled to their remaining match tickets and hospitality?

    In reply to David Lilley:

Another clutching-at-straws question from me. In February last year I was lucky enough to get a ticket for the Final, through ESTC. As far as you currently know, IF England get to the Final, and IF the Wembley attendance limits no longer apply by that date, do you believe UEFA will contact me, and all other previous Final ticket holders, now just holding their refund, and advise them a ticket is theirs again, if they want it?

    In reply to Roger Loughney:

The FA have said that tickets to knock out matches will be balloted if and when we qualify for that match but the ballot will only include those members who originally had tickets for that match. If the final were to be played before a full stadium and if we qualify then our allocation of tickets would surely be the same as it was originally. So, every ESTC member who originally had a ticket would have one once again without the need for a ballot.

A more likely scenario is that the final might be played before a 50% crowd. I know you can do the maths but, for the benefit of others, if our ticket allocation were halved, the chances of someone in the 10% ballot getting a ticket for the final would be 9%.

Cheers...sorted thanks....but good luck......after the shambles of the Liechtenstein tkts years ago I always make sure my cap level is high......now that was a real allocation debacle!

    In reply to Roger Loughney:

Yes, Roger, availability is still high for plenty of packages, despite crowd restrictions. The UEFA rep confirmed that if England were knocked out at any stage there are no refunds, as you are buying a venue specific package, not a team specific one. In other words, it's a gamble for England fans, as you could end up watching two other countries playing in a semi-final at Wembley.
Further to my earlier posts, the cheapest 2020 Club packages have now sold-out.
The next cheapest are €5500 each & include our 3 group games, plus both round of 16 games. A match ticket, all food & drink, access 3 hours before kick-off & 90 minutes after full time, all included
The original deals were in a communal lounge that holds approx 500 people, with seats outside.
Not sure if the remaining are the same areas, or a mixed private box.

How will touts operate if all the tickets are on the phone app though ? Would they give you a phone as well ?! Its unclear if anybody has to show a negative test yet, so that comes into the equation as well doesnt it - would it have to be the same phone with a test as the ticket ? Thanks.

I’m trying to remember back to the nations league but it was possible to transfer tickets to the phone of the holder on the day of the game. I had my three friends tickets and had to transfer the tickets to them before they were activated so they had them on their devices. The tickets were then activated at a security checkpoint.
In theory this whole system is supposed to be tout proof but they will always find a way.
