EURO 2020

UEFA EURO 2020

Scotland & Croatia - Euro 2020

Hi everyone!

First time post in the forum and hoping someone with far more knowledge than I can share some info in relation to the Croatia and Scotland fixtures due to be played on the 13th and 18th respectively. Current Government guidelines suggest that large stadiums (such as Wembley) will have special permission to allow up to 10,000 spectators in from the 17th May.

My first question is - does anyone know how many ESTC members got allocated tickets to those games? And my second question is (as I assume it will be well over 10,000) - how will 'who goes' be decided?

Sorry if this has already been posted, I couldn't find it if it did!

I hope you've all stayed safe during this woeful year and are looking forward to supporting the three lions in the coming weeks and months!

Hi Daniel. With regard to the group games at Wembley, UEFA allocated 12,000 tickets per match to the FA for distribution to ESTC members.

The Scottish FA has not yet been offered any tickets to distribute to their registered fans because they qualified later, through the play-offs. It is possible that they will still get an allocation. This might be as high as England's residual allocation to make things equal. Remember that, even though our group matches are at Wembley, they are not home fixtures. They are fixtures at a neutral stadium and UEFA will not favour England fans, per se.

It is not clear how many tickets were offered to the Croatian FA for the Wembley fixture but they would certainly have had a sizeable allocation.

Wembley also includes 17,000 corporate / VIP seats. We do not know whether any of them will be part of the 10,000.

If the attendance is to be restricted to 10,000 in total, we do not know exactly how the lucky ticket holders will be chosen. The latest rumour in the newspapers is that ticket holders will be invited to enter ballots, with unlucky people going on to a reserve list. If so, UEFA will still need to decide whether ESTC members, fans of our opponents and people who bought their tickets through the general public sale will have their allocations equally reduced or whether ESTC members will get favourable treatment. There is also the issue of how ESTC tickets will be reduced, i.e. will the FA conduct new ballots based on caps or will UEFA run a random ballot.

Another idea being considered is whether fans who are not resident in the country of the stadium should be the unlucky ones to have their tickets cancelled. By restricting cross-border travel in this way, UEFA can contribute to the containment of the coronavirus, if it is still around. It would be interesting to know whether UEFA regards Scotland as a different country for these purposes. If UEFA goes by the address of the ticket holder then remember there are plenty of residents in England who are nationals of other countries including Scotland and Croatia.

All of these issues are to be decided by UEFA on April 20th so we'll just have to wait and see.

Yeah mostly guesswork at this point. If it stays at 10k max fans they may split that allocation between the official fan groups, corporate and those who have just purchased via the UEFA site for the game. With the latter two would expect that decision to be a random draw as to which tickets are “lucky”.
As for ESTC members I would really like to think that any ticketing decisions would be based on caps as per any away or tourney game. So the first 70% of whatever we got would go the highest cappers and the remaining 30% would be entirely at random.
But yeah at this point who knows. Fingers crossed we will get to know in April.

    In reply to David Lilley:

    Hi David ..
I fully understand that IF the number of tickets already allocated must be reduced . That a method must be found thats fair .
As a ESTC long time member ,who work for Birdseye in Norway .

I am fully vaccinated , due to my several underlying illnesses .
I have also saved up my vacation over last year so I can if necessary isolate / test with plenty of time before the first match .
I would be gutted if I lost my tickets due to the fact I work in Norway !

Thinking especially after I bought Cat 1 all the way to final , to give me the best chance . This optimism has locked up much needed £ 2,500 in cash since Jan 2020 .

After traveling to all the tournaments in the last decades . I see this euros as the best chances of winning something . So would be devastating to miss it !

I am getting more confident that a good percentage of fans will be allowed in .

I know you can not probably do anything ...but just wanted to get it off my chest .

    Your Sincerely Richard Strong

Hi Richard, I feel your pain, but in another way. I have suffered from Anxiety for the last 20 odd years. Its made me miss many things in my life since, like travelling abroad and missing many big sporting events like England games in Euro 96, and the 1999 Champions Lge Final. So as I am being more positive recently I had set myself a real target of travelling down to London and going to as many games as possible. So I was thrilled to get lucky in the Uefa draw for the Croatia and Scotland games. So you can imagine how down i was when Covid hit. I know worse things have happened to many, but mental health issues have a habit of clouding your view. Anyway, I feel for you guys who travel everywhere to follow England , so lets hope that as many of us can get lucky and see as many games as possible.

    In reply to Peter salnicki:

Thanks Peter for your support ....

I sincerely hope that you get through these trials which have been caused due to Covid . It has affected people in many different ways .Some have had loses that will take a long time to repair !

So when you put it all in perspective ...people have had it alot worst than my grievance I wrote about .

Personally I have worked during covid as transport coordinator , so had contact with countless drivers from all over Europe ,on a daily basis . I worked all year without holiday , due to staff shortages .
So had to dig deep but had always had the dream of being at the Euros as my dream and motivation .

Sport is a massive means as a healing process .I hope also you get motivation from following England , though the highs and the lows . The feeling of community will make you stronger !

Wish you all the best ...hope we all meet at the Euros ..

    Regards Richard
