UEFA EURO 2020

Free matchday travel

Not sure if this has been posted before but there is free matchday travel for ticket holders in all host cities which might save us a few quid

How long before people start kicking off that they have to use their phone to travel for free, rather than getting a paper ticket?

Not the same app as the match tickets. The travel card will be downloaded to the 'UEFA Euro 2020' app. This app already exists : you can get it from the iPhone store or Google Play. It's mainly general fan information and a load of froth.

People with paper tickets will be able to get a travel card for free match day travel. But I imagine that you will have to produce your paper ticket at some sort of transport hub in order to get your travel card. So, Travel Club members who don't have a smart phone will have to pay a fare to go to the stadium in order to collect their match ticket, then go somewhere else to collect the travel card. It rather defeats the object of having free travel.

The link above says even those with paper match tickets will still only get free travel using the Euro 2020 app

    In reply to Andrew Coates:

Fans who receive paper tickets will also use the UEFA EURO 2020 app to find out how to get their free matchday travelcard.

I interpreted that to mean that information on how to get the travelcard would be in the app, but the travelcard itself would be a physical card. If so, the information will also be on the website so members without a smart phone will be able to find out what to do.

There are 2 bullets in that link i think you need to take note of:

The UEFA EURO 2020 app is also where you will see exactly which services and lines you’ll be able to travel on in London

    and

The travelcard works slightly differently in each city. Some cover the entire public network, some only allow travel on specific routes. Remember to check which lines, zones and services it’s valid for before you travel. All the details will be available on the UEFA EURO 2020 app.

I'll be amazed it it's anything more than a free zones 1 to 6 travelcard.

As it's based on phone touch in/out, they might also be able to restrict it to just the stations on lines that serve Wembley Park / Stadium / Central, i.e. Metropolitan, jubilee and bakerloo lines, and maybe Chiltern and London Overground.

Had started to look at my train trip from the Midlands. It's a great idea, but guess it will be underground lines only and not as far north as Watford?

Good news however as someone travelling by train direct from Solihull to Wembley Stadium station, it's unlikely to benefit me personally.

I am guessing this will be in London only. Very much doubt they will make it free on trains also (Would be gutted as have already got my train tickets from Birmingham booked)
