EURO 2020

UEFA EURO 2020

Wembley Allocation Numbers?

Does anyone know what the approximate allocation is going to be for England's group matches at Wembley?

Assuming we qualify we will play all 3 group games at Wembley (we'll play Scotland at Wembley if they qualify via playoffs due to their lower ranking).

For Euro 2016 the 3 group games were allocated as follows:
Marseille v Russia 11,000; Lens v Wales 5,000; for Saint Etienne v Slovakia 6,000. Which amounts to 16%, 13%, and 14% of stadium capacity respectively.

Given Wembley's 90,000 capacity and an approximate allocation of 14.5% that would translate to around 13,000 tickets for Travel Club Members. At present that would mean all members with at least 1 cap would get a ticket (notwithstanding the 4 caps from our last 2 qualifiers).

Does that seem about right? Anyone know of any info that would counter this? Cheers

Your figures are in the ballpark of what we are expecting. At Euro 2016, for group matches at the Stade de France, the participating countries were allocated 14,000 tickets. We're hoping for a slightly larger allocation for Euro 2020 Wembley group matches as Wembley is a bigger stadium than Stade de France.

UEFA will publish the allocations for each stadium in a few weeks. This might not be until after the qualification matches are completed because, with so many group matches being effectively home games for the host countries, UEFA may want to see who qualifies before finalising the figures. In any case, the allocations will be known no later than soon after the sales window opens.

What will not be known is how the allocation is divided between the different ticket categories. This information is important to fans because it influences which category people will apply for, depending on their position in the caps table and their available budget. For the Euro 2016 tournament, the FA tried to get this information from UEFA but with little success. Late in the process we got a very general indication of which ticket categories contained the most and fewest tickets.

David, am I right in thinking the allocation % are worked out after UEFA take out an amount for the 'football family' so the capacities will be reduced based on this?

    In reply to Nathan Tong:

There are a number of different 'capacities' which are used.

You have the actual stadium capacity, which for Wembley is 90,000. However, there is a then a 'saleable capacity' for the tournament. This is usually a reduced figure to take into account that tournaments need more media space - think that at every game there are BBC, ITV, Talksport, other radio stations, newspapers etc. And then bear in mind that rather than having that just for the 2 countries playing, it's for about 50+ countries around the world, and that's a lot of space needed. At some ground they also need more TV camera positions as well, although Wembley should be fine in this respect.

So assume saleable capacity is about 90% of actual.

Allocations after that are then as per the UEFA info, which is on page 8 of this document:

    www.uefa.com/.../2605987_DOWNLOAD.pdf

    Quotas 2016 2020
    General public 42% 50% (1.5m tickets)
Participating National Associations (PNAs) 32% 32%*
Commercial partners (sponsors and broadcasters) 13% 9%*
    Official Hospitality 6% 4%*
UEFA football family and corporate social resp. 4% 1%*
    Host country/countries and host cities 2% 3%*
    VIP guests 1% 1%*

Each country gets 16% of the saleable capacity. Note this is an average figure, for the knock outs in particular it gets messy as you could be playing in different grounds, so whoever gets Wembley as a 2nd round game won't get 14,000 tickets as they could also have been playing in Copenhagen, where 16% is 6,000 tickets.

As above, football family is only 1%, reduced from 4% in 2016.

According to the UEFA ticketing brochure for Euro 2020, over the whole tournament 32% of the tickets will be set aside for the participating national associations. This doesn't necessarily mean that each team will get exactly 16% of the stadium for each match : it's likely to be higher for the group matches and lower for the knock out rounds. There might also be some adjustments in favour of the teams with the larger fan base.

The brochure also says that 1% of the tickets will be allocated to the UEFA football family. This would imply that tickets for the FA football family would have to come out of their 16% allocation as a participating national association.

Before the 2016 tournament, the FA issued a set of FAQs. In that document, they said that the FA football family had been granted 1000 tickets per match in addition to the number of tickets which were published as available to fans. So the figures

    11,000  v  Russia
    5,000  v  Wales
    6,000  v  Slovakia

were what the fans actually got.

    In reply to David Lilley:

Those were the minimums we had been quoted for each ground i think at the ticket application stage. Certain games or grounds then might have more availability if we're lucky, as you said above. For the Slovakia game we got an extra 1442 tickets plus others for other games. It's been the same in other tournaments too

    englandsupporters.thefa.com/.../euro-2016-ticket-update

i think it's quite frequent in the earlier knock outs, 2nd round and QFs, especially if we play a team who hasn't sold out their allocation, that more tickets can become available once the group games are finished.
