UEFA EURO 2020

Allocation

What is the likely allocation for the travel club should we win tonight and play  our rd16 game at Wembley?

Matt Isle has a very good thread open on allocations and caps. Capacity is due to be 45,000 if that helps.

Our original allocation for the R16 matches was 4806, including wheelchair and easy access tickets. So, we can expect an initial allocation of 2403, i.e. 50%.

But note that our opponent's FA will probably also be offered 2403 or thereabouts. It is unlikely that their fans will take up many tickets because of the UK quarantine rules. I would expect our FA to negotiate with UEFA to try to access some or all of these unsold tickets.

Then there are the general public sale tickets. The UK government initially only gave UEFA a guarantee of 25% capacity for Wembley so I would expect that UEFA only sold that number of tickets. Once the participants in the match are known, I would expect UEFA to put the additional 25% on sale. Those who had tickets from 2019 and lost them in this year's lottery will be given a short exclusive sale period then these tickets will go on general sale. Again, I think there will be little overseas demand for these tickets because of UK quarantine rules so there should be plenty of tickets available to UK based fans.

But was the allocation of 4806 not based on the potential lowest last 16 venue capacity (Copenhagen), with a capacity of 38,000? So halving that capacity (Wembley at 50%) would imply we were expecting an initial allocation of 2403, but this would be for a ground capacity of 19,000. Wembley is obviously far higher than this, so we should be in line for a much higher allocation? Id guess around the 5/6000 mark (doubling our allocations from the group stages)

Hi - surely the fairest and most logical way of doing it (which no doubt means it won't happen) would be to base the allocation numbers on the group games at Wembley bearing in mind the 4806 allocation was only that low because of the smaller stadiums the R16 was due to be in until Wembley took over from Dublin.

By that logic, with the group game allocations having been around 3000 per match to ESTC members, the R16 allocation should be around 6000 meaning everyone who secured a ticket in 2019 will get one and there will be 1000+ to ballot amongst those who were unsuccessful.

Or maybe that would just make too much sense for UEFA to organise.

But it wasn't suppose to be at Wembley so surely that's not right.

Was thinking we'd be getting around 5,000 still with Wembley at 50% capacity.

Copenhagen stadium capacity is only 38,000 anyway (so we would've got around 12% of the ground) and Dublin is 51,000.

Currently opening up the first beer of, hopefully a very successful, day so I'll be of limited use after this but...

Ive previously said I'd love to be able to be confident on both the 16% rule and the fact that we now, maybe, in a larger stadium than initially allocated and therefore all those who initially purchased tickets (irrespective of if they returned them) will ALL be offered tickets BUT I don't have that confidence.

We've seen supporters allocations reduced well below the 16% previously. It was interesting that the Scottish lad who has tested positive seemed to have loads of members of his family there still (in an interview).

Hence the 70% tables are my best rule of thumb for any ESTC allocation.

Good luck everyone. Let's hope my doubt is proved wrong and the ESTC have an easy ride on this round.

    Hopefully this works.

The update from the 27/4/21 is the one.

With the third and fourth columns being the ones to focus on.

An allocation of 3396 should see you right if it goes to the 70%.

    Good luck

Hi Andrew. A lot depends on how UEFA played it when they first put tickets on sale in June / July 2019.

Scenario #1 : UEFA set aside 4806 tickets for the R16 match, to be sold in December via the participating national associations. The rest of the Wembley stadium capacity for the R16 is put on sale to the general public in the June / July lottery.

Scenario #2 : UEFA sell the 4806 tickets in December 2019 but set aside a further X,000 tickets to be released to the 2 relevant national associations when it is known who will be playing in the Wembley R16.

We are all hoping that it will have been scenario 2 so that England fans can get maybe 5,000 - 6,000 tickets in the reduced capacity 50% crowd. But this would have required UEFA to take a gamble by reserving tickets for a last minute sale. What if the 2 teams qualifying for this R16 don't have a large away following ? What if this match doesn't appeal to neutrals ? What if the fans of these teams can't arrange time off, travel and accommodation at such short notice ? It could leave UEFA with a block of unsold tickets.

Scenario 1 doesn't have these issues. We are all looking at this from the perspective of real fans who do their utmost to follow the team as much as they can. But UEFA are quite happy to sell their tickets to fans who only turn up when the circus is in town.

By the way, I don't know which scenario is the true one.

Whilst am semi sober the caveat to my 70% table above is that you (for this and the QF) have to have purchased through the ESTC previously (irrespective if you returned the tickets) to be considered in group 1 as part of the 70%.

Likewise for the SF and F - only those who purchased through the ESTC AND DIDNT return them would be in the first (group 1) and therefore be considered for any 70% initially.

The only slightly positive thing to add to this, is that UEFA still haven't sold ANY tickets to the last 16 game at Wembley, through any participating fan nation sales, or through the UEFA general sale. All tickets for the Dublin game were cancelled, and have not been put back on sale yet.

Hi mate, I returned my R16 ticket thinking it would be in Dublin. I had 52 caps between 2016 and 2020, would you say I stand a good chance of a ticket despite previously returning my ticket.

For the L16 the fact you returned your ticket isnt relevant.

On 52 caps you only need just over 1200 tickets to guarantee one.

    You should be nailed on.

blogs: Sue Smith: England’s forward focus can rattle Uruguay

Before every tournament most people are guilty of thinking a bit higher of England than they probably should - me included, I thought we would beat Italy 2-0! But despite the result I think we must take lots of positives from the performance. It was great to see the players actually go for it in the match and I thought we were quite entertaining. Raheem Sterling was great - every time he got the ball he looked dangerous...

blogs: Adrian Bevington: The connection between England’s players and fans at a World Cup cannot be overestimated

Even now I can recall it perfectly. Lucio stumbled and miscontrolled when heading towards his own goal, and Michael Owen seized the moment. I knew at that point, in Shizuoka in 2002, that Michael would score. And I have to confess that at that moment I really did think we are going to win the World Cup. It is an emotion that takes over you, and although it didn’t turn out to be correct, one of the great pleasures...
