EURO 2020

UEFA EURO 2020

How have ESTC not got the whole allocation for Euros?

Forgive me for being naive here, but how do ESTC get 25% of their ticket allocation for 25% capacity?

Surely ESTC should take preference over General Sale?  So, if there are 10,000 tickets available after the "Football Family" then the entirety should be awarded to ESTC members.

We have put the miles in over the years to earn them, we even sat through the dross that was the "Rooney Special" USA game to earn caps.

Yet, we will potentially lose our seats to someone who hasn't been to any games but just happened to log on to their computer at the right time and got awarded them through the UEFA General Sale.

Doesn't make sense to me at all.

What i don't understand is who are going to be in the seats? Anyone coming into the UK has to self isolate for 10 days..... So does that mean foreign fans will be here for a couple of weeks before the matches (except for Scotland)..I very much doubt your average fan can be here for that long or meet the cost of any hotel requirement

There is no guarantee that Social Distancing laws will be revoked on the 21st June.... and the government travel light system for travel has not bee announced....

To apply some 25% condition that was created pre pandemic makes no sense whatsoever.

Also as a nation we need to remembers what happened when 5K Athletico Madrid fans turned up at Anfield shortly before our first lockdown....

That's why they are doing it on a game by game allocation.
Firstly so the allocation suits the venue, and secondly if it is Copenhagen you have a choice not to buy your ticket, as restrictions on travel and the extra cost for covid tests and the like will most definitely stop people from bothering. I for one will not be travelling to any of the away games, its far to costly just for two games.

The bit I am confused about is why the new allocation of 3600 can't just be cat 3 all round ?

    In reply to David Deighton:

The reason for reducing the crowd capacities at Euro 2020 is to allow social distancing. This would not be achieved if everyone was bunged into the category 3 areas, with the category 1 and 2 areas being left empty. UEFA need to reduce the crowd density in all parts of the stadium by roughly the same amount.

The seat category boundaries are decided by UEFA and they could move them to place more seats into category 3. But, considering that UEFA themselves have lost an absolute fortune through having to postpone the tournament for a year, and that's before refunding the majority of the tickets, there's no incentive for them to move seat category boundaries in our favour.

Our guaranteed reduced allocation for the group matches is likely to be 2900 - 3000. I've seen this figure of 3600 quoted for Scotland but I don't believe that's correct. The original UEFA blurb for the tournament said that 32% of tickets would be for the fans of the participating teams. This is an aggregate figure over the whole tournament but some people have interpreted it to mean that each team will get 16% of the stadium capacity for each match. 16% of 90000 is 14400 and 25% of this is 3600. But the actual figure for each team and each match varies. England's original allocation was not 14400 but 11951 for the group matches. 25% of this is 2987.

Just be sensible about it , no away fans to the UK. Europe is different just as it is for the England Scotland game but no away fans til at least the KO stages seems to me to be the right and sensible choice and not just about us getting more tickets

As someone said earlier the Atletico game at Anfield was 2nd only to Cheltenham in being the biggest spreader

    Why risk it ?

Graham, we didn't a clue about Covid19 back then. Now we have a vaccine which stops vulnerable people dying. Personally I think it would be at least 50% capacity. Westminster Council have just approved 12,500 people to be crammed into Trafalgar Square for a Euro fanpark..... not sure why football fans get regarded as "super spreaders" and get pitful allocations.

Westminster Council have just approved 12,500 people to be crammed into Trafalgar Square for a Euro fanpark

On dates when a match is to be screened, entry to the Trafalgar Square fan zone will be by ticket. There are to be a maximum of 9 matchdays when screenings take place. Applications for tickets must be made in advance and there will be ballots to determine the successful applicants.

For the first 2 group matches, England will still be in Step 3 of the Road Map, For outdoor events, crowds which are not seated are restricted to 4000. If a figure of 12500 has been mentioned, this must be for after when England has entered Step 4 on 21st June.

On days when there are no matches being screened, the fan zone will not operate. The exception is between the semi-final and the final.

Claire I said somewhere on the forum I think the allocations could and will be upped and rightly so as like you say “WE” are at an advanced stage with the vaccine distribution I think it would be silly to think Europe that is lagging so far behind us and will be the same in 6 or 7 weeks is the same as here
I think they should do the sensible thing and stop them coming

Makes sense to me ( even with a lot of I thinks )

The Gov site says 10,000 or 25%, whichever is lower, so 10,000 in Wembley, which is ridiculous. However, there are elections on 6th May, so don't be surprised if the numbers are increased "for good behaviour". By 21st June, there should be no restrictions, so 90,000.

We've already told UEFA it will be a minimum of 25% capacity. Hence we are looking at 22,500 for the group games.

I was at the game on Sunday. We had 2000 in the lower tier corner. Prices were £40 and £50 depending if you were on the side or further round by the corner flag.
Regarding masks, stewards were fairly strict about people wearing them but it was difficult to reach people in the middle of blocks which is why it it looked 50/50. Anyone wearing a bandana style mask was told to not use it and were given a mask to wear instead.
We were all kept in one area so don't think it will be easy getting a beer with the reduced capacity. They only opened one bar and the queue was large to say the least. No draught beer either, just 440 ml cans of Budweiser or Magners for £6 each!!!!
Overall, decent enough organisation getting into the ground with a checkpoint to show your negative covid test result and ID.
Great to be back and good day out but I wouldn't want to do it every week in this way.
