Without me sounding too dumb can somebody answer the following for me:

    1. If the games are played behind closed doors or in front of a partial capacity and my tickets are cancelled by UEFA I get a full refund?

    2. If the games go ahead with full crowds (and my tickets are still valid) but in a different country, I don't get a refund if I can't go?

    3. How will it work if for say a Wembley (90k) game is moved to a 30k stadium?

    4. UEFA adding pandemic to the force majeure, what are the negatives of that for us ticket holders? Simply just my Q2 that if they move it to a country will to take full crowds and our tickets are still valid, we get nothing if travel isn't allowed?

Thanks so much to anybody prepared to answer those questions. Really in two minds about what to do. I have a feeling if I get all my money back now, games will go ahead at Wembley with full crowds and if I decide to keep all my tickets, games won't be accessible to me and I'll fall foul of UEFAs T&C's regards a refund!

    Thank you.

It really is a gamble to what you do . I stared this thread to try and gauge what to do but like every one else I’m still non the wiser plus it doesn’t help when there are 4 in the group . Part of me thinks playit safe take the money and see what happens then the other part thinks you cash in then the say all games played in the uk eat ..... as I said it really is a big gamble unless the FA can give some clarification before the 26

Completely agree. Nightmare and feels like whatever decision I (we) make will be the wrong one come June. I'm just trying to get clarity on the scenarios which will mean I don't get my money back and will make a decision then.

The situation is inducing a lot of anxiety and heightened tension, particularly within group bookings!
I’d say at least hang on till the day of having to make a decision if you can,and hopefully there will have been at least a UEFA statement pushing back the refund deadline until some definitive information is known!
I’m convinced Wembley will have the potential 5 England games, the 2 other games are in the lap of the gods, but I’m willing to hang on to them and cross my fingers they get switched to UK or a future refund window gets announced!

    In reply to Scott Burrell:

I'll try to answer your four points individually. Just my opinion but I have worked in financial payments for 25 years.

    1. If capacity is reduced and your tickets are cancelled, you'll get a refund of the ticket price (UEFA probably won't refund booking fees or any exchange rate movement).
    2. Correct. If, for example, you have a valid QF ticket and the game goes ahead as planned but there are travel restrictions, UEFA will not be liable for a refund. If though UEFA move the stadium, my view is that they would be liable under Section 75 (Consumer Credit Act) legislation. I know they've changed their T&Cs but these do not supersede UK law. Could do with a legal expert to confirm this though!
    3. Again, I believe UEFA is on the hook for a refund if they change the stadium. For example, if the semi-final is moved to a small stadium and your ticket is still valid you should have the option of a refund as you booked a Wembley semi-final ticket.
    4. This is a tricky one. I suspect UEFA have it in there in case government restrictions prevent travel. If there's a new, deadly variant, the government might put us all in lockdown at short notice. If the games are exempt and still go ahead, UEFA will point to this clause to say the circumstances are out of their control and no refunds can be given.

I'll be hanging on to my tickets but I only purchased the group games and the SF and final if England get there. I think the more difficult choice would be the last 16 and QF games.

I haven't looked at the current refund portal, so forgive me if I'm wrong. A couple of comments mention keeping Wembley tickets but getting refunds for the away games. However previous refund windows have been 'all or nothing'?

    1. If the games are played behind closed doors or in front of a partial capacity and my tickets are cancelled by UEFA I get a full refund?

Correct  -  you would get a full refund.

    Scott Burrell
    2. If the games go ahead with full crowds (and my tickets are still valid) but in a different country, I don't get a refund if I can't go?

Correct - this condition is in the UEFA Euro 2020 Refund Policy.

    Scott Burrell
    3. How will it work if for say a Wembley (90k) game is moved to a 30k stadium?

UEFA will have to cancel 60k of tickets and give a full refund. Most of the unlucky 60k ticketholders will not want their tickets cancelled and their selection by UEFA might be fairly random.

    Scott Burrell
    4. UEFA adding pandemic to the force majeure, what are the negatives of that for us ticket holders? Simply just my Q2 that if they move it to a country will to take full crowds and our tickets are still valid, we get nothing if travel isn't allowed?

A lot has been made of the fact that a pandemic has been added to the list of force majeure events but I don't think this makes any difference. An epidemic was always in the list of force majeure events. What is a pandemic but an epidemic in every country ! This change is a clarification of existing conditions rather than a new condition.

If the venue for a match is changed because of a force majeure event then the tickets will remain valid and there will be no refund. However, if crowd numbers at the new venue are limited then UEFA will have to declare some tickets as invalid to bring the numbers down. The invalid tickets will be refunded in full.

If your tickets remain valid but you cannot travel because of government restrictions on travel in either the departure or arrival country then tough - you are stuffed.

UEFA will not and never has accepted any responsibility or liability for consequential costs incurred by fans such as travel and accommodation.

Decent write up here on the various possible outcomes:

    www.espn.co.uk/.../clock-ticking-for-euro-2020-how-can-the-tournament-survive-the-covid-19-crisis

It's worth pointing out also that, at the current rate of vaccinations, the demographics that make up 95% of Covid hospital admissions will be vaccinated by April, so things should start changing quite dramatically for us by then.

With regards to the other host nations; if there is the multi-billion pound carrot dangling of the euros dangling in front of them then I have no doubt they too will accelerate their vaccinations over the coming months.

I think, at best, we are looking 70% capacity, but realistically 30%. I would also expect that as loyal fans that have done the miles to earn tickets we would get priority over those that just got lucky on the ballots, so we would be all covered under the 30%.

With all that being said; international travel is still questionable at this stage. Although, last summer people were freely going on holiday throughout Europe as cases dropped dramatically with the warm weather. This coupled with the vaccination programmes do leave me with quite the sense of optimism. Although, if we are unable to travel we are the most fortunate nation in that 5 of our 7 games are played at are home stadium, so we might potentially only miss the R16 and the QF.

5 months is a long time in Covid world though and a lot can change pretty rapidly, so who knows where we will be. With the current state of play I am maintaining my optimism though, so will firmly be sticking.

UEFA are from what I see making a decision early march so in about 6 weeks

plus cant see them dealing in if and buts?

They will need to be almost certain that whatever they decide will happen so cant see them saying for certain over 20-30% crowds but ??

hopefully hear more from The FA soon about this deadline date .......

Thanks all for the replies, that's been really helpful.

I'm going to stick. I've got two other random games, one Copenhagen and one Rome through the UEFA ballot so thinking I'll ditch those now but keep everything else.

Next interesting date will be when UEFA decide what they're doing, can't imagine they'll leave it much later than the start of April but as some have said things change so quickly with Covid. Be absolute madness if the games are behind closed doors or 20% capacity but pubs are packed full of people watching on the TV! We shall see!

Some of my reply has been superseded. As stated elsewhere, refunds would be allowed if the venue were changed by more than 50 km.

blogs: Tim Vickery: Belo Horizonte a fair setting for England’s new beginnings

Last time the World Cup came to Brazil, England went to the city of Belo Horizonte to be humiliated; it is the scene of that notorious 1-0 defeat to the United States. Perhaps humiliation is too strong a word this time. After all, England’s 2014 World Cup campaign has been marked by single goal defeats to former world champions, whereas back in 1950 the pride of the old First Division went down to what essentially...

blogs: Graeme Le Saux: England can bounce back if they take a few risks

After the disappointment of the last two games, it’s vital that England take risks against Costa Rica. We don’t need two holding midfielders, Roy Hodgson has to start Adam Lallana over Danny Welbeck and we should switch to three men at the back. There was a clear opportunity against Uruguay and Italy to go to a back three – it would have allowed us to put some of our inventive players into more creative...

I’m used to blowing my own trumpet but not when it comes to predictions – I think we’ll get a result against Uruguay, but I thought we’d beat Italy 4-0! blogs: Tim Vickery: Uruguay may raise their game away from Fortaleza furnace

In the build-up to the World Cup a Uruguayan company launched an imaginative advertising campaign. Draped in a sky blue sheet, the colour of Uruguay’s shorts, the ghost of 1950 wandered around Rio frightening the locals – no one ever here needs reminding that the last time the World Cup was held in Brazil, Uruguay walked off with the trophy. So there was an element of Brazilian joy at Uruguay’s humiliating...
