EURO 2020

UEFA EURO 2020

Anyone suffering withdrawal symptoms from the tournament?

I'm bad enough when the group stage goes down from three games a day to two games, let alone when its all over.

It's worse this time obviously as I've never followed us all the way to a Final before, but the defeat mixed with the tournament actually ending has left me with an empty feeling these last two days.

Ii keep looking at the UEFA website hoping they'll announce some more games   :-))))

I can't put my finger on exactly why but this whole tournament didn't really grip me. I watched the odd non-England game but I can't say they had my undivided attention.

Games being all over the place with limited crowd numbers probably didn't help as it never really felt like a "proper" tournament. Having so many games at Wembley, whilst obviously good whilst there are overseas travel restrictions in place, wouldn't have been my first choice either.

It was great to see mates for the first time in 16 months and there were a couple of moments where the atmosphere was bang on but as the tournament progressed the novelty of another trip down to London started to wear off. Queuing for the underground in the rain post-match on Sunday night, whilst obviously disappointed by the result, I was half glad that it was all over.

Eurowings have shelved my flights for Hungary in September so trying to sort out an alternative route there has got me buzzing more than most of the tournament did!

Not really Peter. I've just bought some tickets to pre season friendly next week and it seems like I've got at least one game a week from this weekend.
Be pleased to get back to normal after the manic weekend.

No withdrawal symptoms but plenty of Covid symptoms and positive LF & PCR tests!
I am battered with it. Got through a full 6 games at Wembley before it finally caught up with me. Nightmare

After those first couple of weeks I didn't know what to do when there were no games. I'd forgotten how enjoyable home tournaments were aside from the England games when it is always preferable, for me anyway, to watch away from my sofa.

I thought I'd hate the tournament with it being all over Europe and the Covid crowd restrictions but I still loved it. I even enjoyed the England games in front of only 22000.

Id definitely turn the clock back 4 and a half weeks and do it all again. Maybe with out the Erikssen cardiac arrest though.

Exactly the same with me, made it through 6 matches and then it caught up with me. LF and PCR are both positive from Monday, another in my group exactly the same as well.

I enjoyed every minute PJB apart from the very last kick! Some great matches.
I'd usually be more fed-up, but if you'd offered me an England penalty shoot out in the final, at the start of June, I'd have snatched your hand off.
    I can console myself with the following;
We're gradually getting nearer to winning something
Being involved until the final means our next qualifier is closer.
Due to Covid, the next tournament is only 16 months away.

Yes I’ve had both jabs. At minute symptoms are mild hopefully that’s how it will stay. The jabs don’t stop you getting it they’re supposed to minimise the impact it can have.

blogs: Sue Smith: England’s forward focus can rattle Uruguay

Before every tournament most people are guilty of thinking a bit higher of England than they probably should - me included, I thought we would beat Italy 2-0! But despite the result I think we must take lots of positives from the performance. It was great to see the players actually go for it in the match and I thought we were quite entertaining. Raheem Sterling was great - every time he got the ball he looked dangerous...

blogs: Graeme Le Saux: Deny Luis Suarez space and England can prevail

How do you stop Luis Suarez? The key for England will be communication and getting tighter defensively than they did against Italy. There was an uncertainty and a vulnerability to England's defence, particularly down the left, on Saturday night...

blogs: John Hemmingham: Even Balotelli’s fiancée knows this band on the run

There is no better place to be as the leader of England’s band than at a World Cup in Brazil – but the one downside is we don’t know if we’ll be allowed to play inside the stadiums! This country has two loves, music and football...

blogs: Tim Vickery: Brazil-Spain jostles for position as football's new super-rivalry

Now might be a good time to remind everyone that Spain lost their first match in the last World Cup – and look what happened to them! And so, to take our minds off the result in Manaus, I decided to have a look at one of world football’s most...

blogs: Adrian Bevington: The connection between England’s players and fans at a World Cup cannot be overestimated

Even now I can recall it perfectly. Lucio stumbled and miscontrolled when heading towards his own goal, and Michael Owen seized the moment. I knew at that point, in Shizuoka in 2002, that Michael would score. And I have to confess that at that moment I really did think we are going to win the World Cup. It is an emotion that takes over you, and although it didn’t turn out to be correct, one of the great pleasures...
