Take a look at this thread.
    englandsupporters.thefa.com/.../16396

If every member of the Travel Club applied for tickets then your chances would be bleak. But not every member will apply. Indeed, the vibes are that this World Cup will be less popular than any of the other recent ones and anyone who wants a ticket will get one. I'm not so sure.

At Russia 2018, before the draw was made, the consensus was also that numbers attending from England would be down and there would be enough tickets for everyone who wanted to go. This was shortly after the Skripal poisoning affair when relations between the governments of Britain and Russia were toxic. It was also 2 years after Russian fans had attacked England fans in Marseille leaving at least 2 with life threatening injuries. Many people were put off from applying for tickets.

When the draw was made, the group match allocations were :
    2116 vs Tunisia in Volgograd
2155 vs Panama in Nizhny Novgorod
    1419 vs Belgium in Kaliningrad

There were enough tickets for everyone for the first 2 matches. But the Belgium match was the plum tie and it was also in the smallest stadium. The allocation was not enough to meet demand and the tickets went to a ballot. Low cappers missed out.

You should make yourselves familiar with the caps loyalty scheme and how ballots are carried out. It's in the Travel Club rules but I can't put 2 links in the same post.

Good, but start going the qualifiers from this September including any friendlies. (although there wont be many of those). I'd imagine this won't be the most popular tournament, but still get to as many games you can. My estimate is that you'll probably need 15-20 caps to guarantee tickets, but I could be out on that.

I’m fairly new too Wayne and I’m hoping to go to Qatar. The plan is to load up on caps before hand so us newbies stand a chance at tickets. Keep the faith and Come on England

    Hello Wayne,

Further to previous replies, the thing to do is to plan ahead. It might be difficult to get tickets for Qatar, but if you start going to friendlies and qualifiers from this autumn, then you're going to give yourself a better chance for later tournaments.

Can you imagine the atmosphere if we were to travel to Euro2024 in Germany as defending Euro Champions, and as fearless conquerors of Die Mannschaft at the previous Euros?

I’m fairly certain you could get any tickets you wanted for Qatar, even on as few as 2 caps.

I had the pick of the entire Russia World Cup (equally as unpopular pre tournament) and only had 4 caps by the time the ticketing was sorted months prior.

    In reply to Chris Power:

If we're European Champions, it will definitely spike more interest but I agree that Qatar is not an attractive proposition as a destination and apart from the real hardcore fans who would follow England if they played on the moon (Blatter was up for that apparently for 2030), I think as much as the football, many fans enjoy the whole experience of overseas tournaments ie a different culture, famous landmarks, drinking in bar after bar and Qatar will offer very little on that front.

I suspect the group games might be less well attended unless there's a big beast in our group and people will buy conditional tickets for the knock out stages.

    In reply to Tim Powell:

I tend to agree with that, Tim. Qatar is the tournament that holds the least interest for me since I started travelling with England back in 1986. I prefer to be away from football related stuff apart from the games themselves and the way the Qatar tournament appears to be organised that looks like it will be difficult from within Qatar. Early days (we've not even qualified) but like others I might fly in and fly elsewhere between games.

blogs: Ian Fenwick: England emerging for bright future

I’m someone who is lucky enough work within the FA and the one thing I can say from my experience is that the future of English football is amazingly bright. Of course it’s not enough to always say that the things are going to be good in...

blogs: Tim Vickery: Belo Horizonte a fair setting for England’s new beginnings

Last time the World Cup came to Brazil, England went to the city of Belo Horizonte to be humiliated; it is the scene of that notorious 1-0 defeat to the United States. Perhaps humiliation is too strong a word this time. After all, England’s 2014 World Cup campaign has been marked by single goal defeats to former world champions, whereas back in 1950 the pride of the old First Division went down to what essentially...

blogs: Graeme Le Saux: England can bounce back if they take a few risks

After the disappointment of the last two games, it’s vital that England take risks against Costa Rica. We don’t need two holding midfielders, Roy Hodgson has to start Adam Lallana over Danny Welbeck and we should switch to three men at the back. There was a clear opportunity against Uruguay and Italy to go to a back three – it would have allowed us to put some of our inventive players into more creative...

blogs: John Hemmingham: Let’s blow our own trumpet for once – come on England!

I’m used to blowing my own trumpet but not when it comes to predictions – I think we’ll get a result against Uruguay, but I thought we’d beat Italy 4-0! You’ve got to be optimistic as an England fan, sometimes it’s blind optimism but if you do what we do you have to believe. I’ve been following England with the band for 18 years now and it has always been the same. Roy Hodgson...

blogs: Tim Vickery: Uruguay may raise their game away from Fortaleza furnace

In the build-up to the World Cup a Uruguayan company launched an imaginative advertising campaign. Draped in a sky blue sheet, the colour of Uruguay’s shorts, the ghost of 1950 wandered around Rio frightening the locals – no one ever here needs reminding that the last time the World Cup was held in Brazil, Uruguay walked off with the trophy. So there was an element of Brazilian joy at Uruguay’s humiliating...
