EURO 2020

UEFA EURO 2020

A lot of fans Booing the knee tonight

Anyone else think the FA need to drop this gesture for the Euros.

It’s starting to get a bit embarrassing.

Your own team being booed before kick is surely not the way to start a game

it's a personal decision amongst the players and is about racial equality NOT a political stance which a lot of misinformed "fans" seem to think. There is something inherently wrong with you if, after a year without games, the first thing you do at a match is boo players who are making a stance about not wanting to be racially abused. I'm just pleased that there were more fans trying to drown out those fans who were booing.

It's a personal decision for supporters too, insulting and patronizing supporters who are freely voicing their opinion peacefully is not going to help.

    I get that Lauren.
The problem is this booing is not going to disappear anytime soon and whether you are for it or against it, it’s no way to start a game.
A chorus off Football’s coming home and then booing the national team, before a major tournament game kicks off ,broadcast worldwide.is really going to embarrass the FA.
If the players stood and linked arms for 5 seconds instead off kneeling I feel the booing will stop and more people will support their cause.

I was there last night, didn't boo the knee nor did i applaud the knee.

In my personal view I think it should be stopped now, don't think its doing anything the impact has gone.

Also there is a small minority of players with their fists in the air. For the ones old enough to remember this is a political statement which I believe is counter productive.

Again these are just my view's and everyone is entitled to their own.

Booing the knee happens when the knee is being performed, I think standing with linked arms is much better.

    In reply to Kevin Jenkins:

I'm not entirely sure how wanting racism to end is insulting and patronising? It's a fundamental human right for someone to go about their day to day lives, - including representing their country in football - and not get racially abused by supporters. Again it's the players' decision and you should be supporting any player who pulls on the England shirt regardless of their ethnicity and background.

The embarrassing aspect here is England fans booing their own players.

England players have come out and said many times that they are doing it to promote equality, nothing political. Despite this knowledge, I'd love to hear from someone who booed the gesture last night as to why they're booing equality?

It's not really something the FA can just 'drop', it is something that the players want to do and their reasons for doing so (i.e. non-political) have been explained again last night by Gareth Southgate. Personally, I don't have any problem with players taking the knee, and/or raising a fist if that's their preference, or linking arms or anything else if their intention is to promote an anti-racism message in sport and/or society in general. If and when players think the impact of pre-match gestures has gone or when they see a genuine shift in attitudes towards racism, they will inevitably stop, somehow I don't think that booing them is going to speed that up...

The thing with equality and free speech in the UK is that the fans who boo ‘the knee’ have the right to do so... rightly or wrongly.

Well Gareths message doesn't seem to be getting through !

''The Labour Party's John McDonnell has launched a scathing attack against the England football fans who booed players for taking the knee in support of Black Lives Matter.''

BLM, for some, are toxic That's why the knee gets a boo and not due to racism.

    In reply to Jonathan Davies:

If it's due to equality, I assume that includes rich v poor.

If all the players that knelt last night could give me a £1,000 each it would really demonstrate they support ALL equality.

Interesting, but think I'll listen to the manager and the players on this one... Southgate: "I think we have got a situation where some people seem to think it’s a political stand that they don’t agree with. That’s not the reason the players are doing it. We’re supporting each other. I was pleased that was drowned out by the majority of the crowd"

It doesn't matter what reasons Southgate gives for the players doing it, the fans are booing as it's a patronising divisive gesture, orchestrated by a Marxist organisation and the importation of American politics into the UK. No one is booing for any other reason than that.

Have the team walk round the pitch with an anti racism banner, there would be 0 boos.
