UEFA EURO 2020

All Follow My Team Tickets Cancelled

Incredibly disappointing news, UEFA are cancelling all Follow My Team Tickets for the knockout games.

"

Considering the location for most knock-out matches is unknown until completion of the group-stage, and the existing significant travel restrictions, UEFA has decided to cancel and refund all Follow My Team tickets.

Importantly, the quota of Follow My Team tickets for the knockout stage matches will remain reserved for fans of the qualified teams, which will (subject to the rules of the respective fan clubs) still give them the opportunity to purchase tickets at a later stage, should their team progress and should travel restrictions permit them to reach the match venue at short notice."

Which is complete and utter nonsense. As everyone knew that those games could be in possible multiple places when they signed up for the ballot

How on earth do they expect the ESTC to be able to allocate and sell tickets with approx 4 days notice between games? Our last 16 game is potentially on a Tuesday, with the last 8 game a Saturday.

I am assuming the group games of a follow my team package would remain? Doesn't state explicitly. This of course means that the SF and final tickets (that we were all happy to be at Wembley) are gone.

Something not adding up here ........

Just checked our tickets, all still there - can even un-cancel the QF tickets i cancelled yesterday? Are these FMT tickets ones brought through UEFA and not the fan club? Or have the fan club done a cull due to the new stadium capacities?

    In reply to Richard Charlesworth:

The definition of a Follow My Team ticket is :

a PNA Allocation Ticket to a Knock-out Match, the issue of which is dependent on the applicable PNA’s progress to that round.

    PNA  =  Participating National Association

So we're talking here about knock out match tickets issued through the FA to ESTC members. Group matches are not affected. Neither are tickets to knock out matches issued through the UEFA ballots.

Thanks. As I had FMT all the way, if we make the semis or beyond I will be mighty hacked off if I don't get a ticket!

Pretty sure UEFA also have a `Follow my team` option during their sales too.

    In reply to Richard Holland:

FIFA has a Follow My Team option through the general public sales channel for World Cups but I don't think UEFA has one for the Euros. UEFA publishes a separate set of ticketing T&Cs for tickets sold through the PNAs and through the general ballots. There is no definition or mention of follow my team tickets in the general ballots version.

I had flights booked to Dublin, Copenhagen, Rome and St Petersburg. I was prepared to take the hit if we didn't qualify for those matches. (Obviously, we couldn't qualify for all of them.) Now, I also risk taking a hit if we do qualify and I don't get my cancelled tickets back. But if I try to unravel the flights and later I do get a ticket to 1/2 of these matches then I've cancelled flights that I needed.

We had until Monday to submit our tickets for cancellation and refund. We know there are risks associated with host country entry restrictions linked to the coronavirus situation. Why can't UEFA treat us like adults and let us make our own decisions about what risks to take ?

Looking particularly at England fans, it is ridiculous to cancel our 'Follow My Team' tickets to any match taking place at Wembley, since we don't have to cross any national borders to get there. We should have been allowed to keep our R16, SF and Final tickets.

    Isnt this the key passage:

Importantly, the quota of Follow My Team tickets for the knockout stage matches will remain reserved for fans of the qualified teams, which will (subject to the rules of the respective fan clubs) still give them the opportunity to purchase tickets at a later stage, should their team progress and should travel restrictions permit them to reach the match venue at short notice."

hence we now just need to wait for the ESTC to decide if:

All those who initially applied are still guaranteed the same tickets with no further ballot or changes allowed. (This has the disadvantage that some tickets may not get taken up as some members cannot make the matches now).

    Or

Whether there will be a further ballot based on the existing 70/30 rules which can include only 2018/20 members who applied last time with their previous choices (This will cheese off those who applied wrongly last time).

    Or

Whether there will be a further ballot based on the existing 70/30 rules which can include only 2018/20 members who applied last time with their new choices. (This will cheese off those who applied wrongly last time even more).

    Or

Whether there will be a further ballot based on the existing 70/30 rules which can include any 2018/20 members irrespective of if they applied last time. (This will cheese off those who applied correctly last time).

    Or

Whether any further ballot excludes people who've cancelled their tickets themselves? (This will cheese off people who cancelled and now realise they can go to matches).

Lots of work for the ESTC team trying to get to a fair and decent solution for the fans and one which works for them too.

    In reply to David Lilley:

As ESTC know exactly who had tickets for the knockouts then surely they can set up an exclusive link valid for say 24/48 hrs for those people as England qualify for each stage so they can buy them back?
They are delivered to phones anyway so technologically feasible?
Seems silly decision to blanket cancel to have to go through this process?
Doesn’t help those with flights and accommodation booked though, however, all flights and accommodation bookings carried their own risk as destinations are dependent on results..

    In reply to Matthew Isle:

That's a very good summary of the options. But, with only 2-3 days between matches, there is no time for the ESTC to :

    - invite members to say whether or not they want the tickets originally allocated to them,
    - offer any spare tickets to other members
    - conduct any ballots
    - return a computer file to UEFA with a list of "returning members" and "new sales"
    - UEFA verifies the computer file and requests payment
    - member makes the payment

My fear is that the quota reserved for ESTC will just be put on sale by UEFA on a fastest finger first basis, but restricted to ESTC members.

That's a promising suggestion, except that it would be UEFA who would have to set up the link as all payments are directly to them, not through the ESTC. UEFA might perceive a risk that some tickets would go unsold as members don't take up the option.

Is there any way you could check whether that's what UEFA have in mind and, if not, suggest it to them.

    In reply to David Lilley:

I think that's why they have asked every venue to confirm a set specific amount of seats for all stadia. The FA will check the limits and re-run any ballots right nowish. Members who didn't cancel yesterday have indicated they wish to continue with their ticket.
Spares and the like will also be offered now at PMA level, again can easily done with a fixed amount. I don't think anyone needs to wait until July to do that.
