EURO 2020

UEFA EURO 2020

Back to normal by 21 June? Euros

Boris announced today that the hope is that all restrictions will end on 21 June.

Seems odd in the middle of the Euros- my teenage son is gutted that we have Croatia tickets not Czech Republic.

Just wondered if anyone had heard anything about what's likely to happen?

Interesting article on the BBC today, stating that Scotland and Ireland are unwilling to give assurances at this time on the prospect of fans being allowed back in.

I can imagine a good few countries might take a similar stance, will make UEFA's decisions even more tricky.

It would make common sense to reduce the number of countries to those with the right infrastructure and vaccine regimes. However when was the last time (before this one) that you saw common sense and UEFA in the same sentence?

    In reply to Alan Sutton:

Italy have just had calls to re-enter a severe lockdown again. Given the timescales you really can't see some venues being only BCD come June. UEFA need answers by the end of this month.
It's coming to the point where UEFA either decide to postpone again - and perhaps next years Nation's league or go for BCD.

    In reply to Peter Sherwood:

There is no scope for Uefa to postpone the tournament again as we already have the World Cup in 2022 and the domestic seasons have to be shuffled to accommodate this.

Uefa want 20-30% of the grounds filled or they may take the games away, 27k at Wembley. Fa’s have until April 7th to report if crowds will be allowed

blogs: Tim Vickery: Counter-punching Ecuador could prove a good test for England

Four years ago, Ecuador coach Reinaldo Rueda was in charge of Honduras, and he experienced at first hand one of the problems of the World Cup. If the players are not used to the pressure and the glamour of the tournament, then the whole thing can pass...

blogs: Tim Vickery: Can England pass Peru's back three test?

When Peru narrowly failed to make the World Cup in 1998, their coach was Juan Carlos Oblitas, a winger from their side of the late 70s and early 80s. Oblitas remains an important voice in the Peruvian game – and he is not happy with the squad that...

blogs: Tim Vickery: Prototype Peru may prove just as welcoming to England as Wembley itself

Peru have not only been invited to Wembley this Friday to give a South American flavour to England’s World Cup send-off. Presumably, the idea is that the fans will go home happy and the team will get a pre-tournament morale boost. Only goal difference...
