36 caps and selected Cat 3 with option to be moved for semi-final and final. Surely covered for that. Don't want to move to 2 and end up with Cat 1 if can help it.

You will be fine. I just added up the membership listing and at 36 caps you are in the top 2312 so actually should get one of the fans first tickets if you applied given there are 3546 tickets. I am on 12 caps and if my maths are correct should get a cat 3 ticket for the group games as 7500 members with that number of caps or more, and we get more cat 3 tkts than that and it is well within the 70% limit. For semi final and final like you gone for cat 3 with option to go up to cat 2, and whilst not guaranteed to get a ticket as on the cusp as the top 70% cut off potentially is at 7432 caps would be very unlucky not to get a ticket, as firstly everyone has to apply and surely some have got a ticket through the general sale earlier in the year, and even if there was a ballot would have over 90% chance. Not prepared to pay the Cat 1 price for final

There a bit vague about advice for semi & final “we strongly advise members to move where financially viable to cat 1 or 2 in order to avoid missing out and not being allocated a ticket surely on 24 caps looking at your table having picked fans first and ticked the box to move up I will get cat 3 due to the mathematical calculations ?? I know it’s hard for them to give advice but wish they would be more specific about cap levels

I am only on two caps so need to apply for Cat 2 tickets for Final. Depending on if/what I get, I plan to "insure" the cost by betting on England to win the tournament then cashing out before the Final. Based on current odds I would risk £50 to avoid spending probably £250. Just build it into total tournament cost!

Agree mate. On 28 caps but itching to pull the trigger and go for cat 3 with move up option instead of Fans First.
Maths tells me to stay where I am, FA advising a move. Money pulling me both ways............

I suppose makes sense given Cat 2 prices are €595, might do the same if I get a ticket

A very well written update from the FA. Giving updates about what categories are popular, but just as importantly warning people not to just apply for any category or choosing to accept upgrades, on tickets they cant really afford. Also confirming that if you can't afford to pay in January for  1 of the tickets you get allocated then you will lose all of the tickets you get allocated.

Nice touch of membership care in my opinion from the ESTC guys.

Many of England's matches at EURO 2020 remain under-subscribed in some categories

    ESC news articles 300x250
Following our previous update and based on the latest application report from UEFA, Travel Club members should be aware of the following information when applying for EURO 2020 tickets.

If you aren't a 'top-capper' we would advise you to tick the box which allows you to move up or down a category to improve your chances of success.

Members are also reminded that all knock-out match tickets are conditional. This means that if England do not reach a certain knock-out stage, all remaining knock-out match tickets become void and you will receive a refund after the tournament ends. In addition, you cannot pick and choose Round of 16 and Quarter Final tickets depending on the location. If you're allocated tickets for these matches, it will be regardless of whether England finish 1st, 2nd or 3rd in the group.

    EURO 2020
Applications close at 1pm (2pm CET) tomorrow, Wednesday 18 December.

    Croatia

Category 1 is still under-subscribed; anyone on 0 caps and wishes to attend England's opening match are strongly advised to move to category 1.

    Play-off winner C

Category 1 is also under-subscribed for this match; members on less than 10 caps and those with no caps at all are strongly advised to move to category 1 in order to improve their chances of being allocated a ticket.

    Czech Republic

Depending on the results of the first two fixtures, the Czech Republic match could be a deciding game for England at EURO 2020. Based on current figures provided by UEFA, this match provides the best opportunity for members on 0 caps to attend an England match at EURO 2020.

Both Category 1 and Category 2 are under-subscribed. Category 3 is heavily oversubscribed so anyone on 0 caps are encouraged to apply for category 1 or 2 in order to improve their chances of being allocated tickets.

    Round of 16

Once again Category 1 is under-subscribed, members on a low number of caps (including 0 'cappers') are encouraged to apply for category 1. Due to the allocation and current application figures provided by UEFA, it is inevitable that members on a high number of caps (28 and below) will miss out due to their category choice. It is for this reason, that we encourage members to move to Category 1 in order to improve your chances of being allocated tickets and to prevent un-allocated tickets being returned to UEFA.

    Quarter Final

We are oversubscribed across all three categories for this fixture. Some members on 28 caps and below may miss out entirely due to their category choice.

    Semi-Final and Final

Categories 1 and 2 are significantly under-subscribed whereas 'Fans First' and Category 3 are heavily oversubscribed. We strongly advise members to move (where financially viable) to category 1 or 2 in order to avoid missing out on being allocated a ticket.

    EDIT APPLICATION

Please be aware that once you have been allocated tickets and received notification from UEFA (January 2020), you will only have the option to buy either all or none of the tickets you're allocated. It will not be possible to pick and choose which tickets to pay for. Therefore we recommend all members apply for matches that they actually want to attend and can afford to pay for.

Matt, I think I know the answer but just want to run it past you. I'm on 51 and my son 34 and the only game that I'm a bit concerned about is the R16. I've ticked accept higher for both of us and put Cat 3. Due to the splits my son would prob be lifted to Cat 2 - would I also then be lifted to Cat 2? What I'm worried about is me getting Cat 3 and him nothing.

    In reply to Nathan Tong:

    Hi Nathan

If one of your group does gets moved to cat 2 it's almost certain you will follow too.

I'd suspect scenarios that could happen in your case are:

    1) Both successful on cat 3
    2) Both successful on cat 2
    3) Just dad successful on cat 3 (due to you having a load of caps)

Ive stepped away from giving specific cat advice as the ESTC have given some good information and with lots of other data out there in the thread below (and it's too time consuming):

    englandsupporters.thefa.com/.../14306

Suggest you remind yourself of the category allocations for the match you're concerned with (link is on my final update on the link above). Then ensure you both fit in the 70%.

Then check how many ESTC members are above you against the ticket cats you could fall into.

Obviously not everyone above you will have applied at all or applied for the cats you want but I suspect once you've done this exercise (in conjunction with the ESTC staffs advice) it may be clearer what the likelihood of 1) and 2) above are against 3).

Sorry its a generic answer but if I don't answer like this others won't help themselves and we'll be bombarded.

    Genuinely good luck to everyone.

Matt thanks for posting this. I'd stupidly not seen the update on the email as the title was ambiguous and the caps update was right at the bottom. Think we are ok on 19 and 21 caps for cat 3 in the final but have ticked the box to move up just in case as cat 2 is undersubscribed.

Thanks for all your comments over the last few weeks and also to the likes of David Lilley. We all owe you a beer!

    In reply to Colin Draycott:

The best guidance is in the estc rules, and that’s not ambiguous, the top 70% are guaranteed tickets, then 20%, then 10% ballots, ticket preference is decided by highest cappers getting first choice then working down until all tickets in that category have gone, then repeating for the other categories. With Mathews table everyone should’ve able to work out what they can at least expect and will probably get better due to people already having tickets from general sale or not applying. Some people will only apply for cheapest tickets because that’s what they can afford and are prepared to miss out rather than put themselves in financial difficulty whereas some don’t bother to look into it in detail and will miss out and I think a lot of the advice given in updates is aimed at these.

    In reply to Paddy Buckley:

Paddy I’ve just come off the phone with Englandfans and have been told that the 70/20/10 split will be done per category, not just per allocation.

Now this contradicts what others have been told over the phone so someone at EF is clearly wrong, but has left me totally unsure which way it will be done and no idea what category to apply for.

If they do it the way you mention (which id hoped would be the case) I would have been fine with category 3, but if they do it as they told me on the phone then I will have to apply for a higher category. I’ll be less than pleased if I do that and then it turns out they’ve done it the way you say and I’ve paid more than I needed to for a ticket that’s for sure
