For clarity I think there's been a misunderstanding with how you worded your question. The top 70% of members who applied (minus those on 0 and 1 caps) should be successful with their application - assuming they followed our advice.

    In reply to Team England:

Thanks for taking the time reply, however please could you clear up any misunderstanding, as it’s still not clear to me from your post either.

Is the 70% allocation to top cappers done from the total allocation? I.e we have an allocation of 10,612 tickets for the final so the top 70% who applied (7428 members, assuming everyone applies) would be guaranteed a ticket as part of the 70% allocation.

Or will it be done with 70/20/10 per each category?

As this will make a significant difference to what category I (and I’m sure plenty of others) would need to select. It seems we’ve been told conflicting advice and it’s not clear to me which one you were indicating in your post sorry.

    Thanks

    On 39 caps
Gone Cat 3 for group games, Cat 2 for 16 and QF, Fans 1st for Semi and final.
Reckon, ill be ok as I have ticked to upgrade.
I think I will get what I requested, but a possibility of an upgrade on last 16 and/or Q/Final

My boy is on 24 he has done the same as me for all games except semi and final where he has done cat 3. He may just sneak in to what he wants, but will likely be upgraded for last 16 and q/final to cat 1.

    Thoughts anyone :-)

Absolute Clarity on whether its done by game or by category would be ideal as makes a huge difference to cut off

For you, Neal, on 39 caps I think Cat 3 (with tick to upgrade) for R16 and QF will be absolutely fine - see my other post a moment or two ago to the guy on 40 caps who had a similar question.

But I agree that, for your boy, you'd need to go Cat 2 (with tick to upgrade) for R16 and QF

Don’t think we’re going to get it in time for the 1pm deadline.

For what it’s worth, I did post a new thread saying that I’d been told I’ve the phone that the 70/20/10 would be done per category rather than total allocation; however someone has deleted this post so I’d assume that was probably incorrect advice and deleted to save confusion. That would make sense considering the response above too.

    In reply to Luke Sadler:

The guru, David Lilley, said he'd spoken to Team England and they'd confirmed that the 70/20/10 split was done as a single exercise (rather than by Category).

It is kind of worrying that Team England have not, to my knowledge, formally confirmed this one way or the other.

As a natural worrier I've assumed it's done by Category just to be on the safe side!

    In reply to Luke Sadler:

How clear do you need it, Team England corrected your post above, the top 70% and followed there advice, ie you could be in the top 70% but not guaranteed to be high enough up the caps table to get the category you have applied for so tick the box, some people are clearly in this situation and that advice is trying to help them.

    In reply to Paddy Buckley:

As you can see from the posts above mine, there’s 3 of us in the last half an hour who are all unclear based on the information we’ve been given so clearly the answer to your ‘how clear do you need it?’ question appears to be an little clearer! ;)

I’ve submitted my application now so will just wait and see. As I’m inside the top 7000 members I will expect to get Category 3 for all the Wembley games considering we have 7100+ for each of those games then.

My group is 35, 33 and 31 caps. Due to the slight ambiguity as to how they're doing the 70% cut off (whether it's the total allocation or per category), I'd imagine it'll be the whole allocation but better to be safe than sorry; I've just switched our R16 category to 2 from 3, already had the box ticked to accept other categories. Every other game we've gone 3 or FF. Should've been fine for cat 3 but better safe than sorry.

I have applied for a ticket (cat 1) for Quarter final, I have 3 caps however my friend has 0 caps. What ,at a guess, would you say are my/our chances of being successful?

that certainly hasn't been the case previously - I believe it was per category for both 2016 and 2018

You’ll be fine I’m sure, and that’s not even taken into account how many ESTC members have already got tickets from the general sale.

blogs: Tim Vickery: A World Cup in every sense

Two World Cup Finals are being replayed in this week’s 2014 semi finals. The Germans seek revenge for their 2-0 defeat in 2002 when they meet Brazil – amazingly only the second time these giants have ever met in the tournament. And Holland were the closest – so far – a European team has ever come to winning the World Cup in South America when they hit the post with almost the last kick of normal...

blogs: Sue Smith: England can bounce back

There’s no doubt England can bounce back – the women’s team did it after the 2007 World Cup by going all the way in Euro 2009. Although we lost against Germany in the final of those Euros, there was a sense of achievement and progress...

blogs: Graeme Le Saux: Cool-hand Luke can handle price-tag

Having a hefty price tag can weight heavy on your shoulders – it certainly did for me when I moved back to Chelsea in 1997 for £5.5m. At the time I was the most expensive English defender and there was a lot of pressure that came with that. I found it quite hard and Luke Shaw now finds himself in a similar position after moving to Manchester United for £30m. It does make you look at things differently...

blogs: Graeme Le Saux: It’s time to give England’s players a break

There’s no doubt England’s players will be disappointed with the way things panned out in Brazil, but they deserve a break after the mentally exhausting season they have all had. They’ll feel like they are coming home prematurely because going into these tournaments you always think that you’re good enough to progress, so to lose their first two games and be out of the World Cup this early will...

blogs: John Hemmingham: Fresh faces give us cause for hope

In my years following England I’ve seen some great players come and go – and teams rise and fall. I can say with pride that I saw every game David Beckham played for England and I have also been privileged enough to have seen all of Frank Lampard and Steven Gerrard’s appearances. Watching the Costa Rica match it was hard to think that it might be both of their final appearances. I remember Gerrard...
