EURO 2020

UEFA EURO 2020

Visa Saint Petersburg

Anyone seen any info on if we will need visa's for Saint Petersburg like we did for the world cup? Not sure how they would turn them around in time as we are obviously not confirmed to play there until a few days before.

Yes - I know they won't accept the World Cup Fan-IDs, but it just seems like they're making life more difficult for themselves than it needs to be. They extended the validation period for them beyond the end of the World Cup and it would have been less work for the Russian authorities if they'd just allowed them to be re-used during the Euros.

Just had a thought. For the World Cup I seem to remember people were able to use the same ticket reference for multiple FAN ID applications. If anyone knows someone with a ticket for a group game in St Petersburg they might be able to use that reference to apply for a FAN ID.

Apologies if my memory is playing tricks on me!

At last, I have received a substantive reply from the Fan-ID Help Desk.

    Hello!

Thank you for your suggestions. We've checked the information.

If you have Follow My Team tickets (conditional tickets) for the UEFA EURO 2020тм quarter-final match, which will be held at the Saint Petersburg stadium (Russian Federation) on 3 July 2020, you will be able to apply for a FAN ID during the round of 16, only after receiving a notification from UEFA that your team has qualified for the next round of the tournament and your ticket(s) has(have) become valid.

The foreign citizens who hold tickets that have become valid and use their FAN IDs to enter the Russian Federation without a visa will be able to enter and leave the Russian Federation using their FAN ID electronic forms and identity documents recognised as such by the Russian Federation (Passport).

The PDF file with personal data and a photo of the spectator sent to the email specified by the spectator when applying for the FAN ID serves as the confirmation of the FAN ID electronic form. The PDF file must be printed on A4 paper and carried with you when traveling to Russia.

The FAN ID electronic form is designed only for visa-free entry into and exit from Russia and does not grant access to the stadium. To access the stadium, you must obtain a FAN ID on a laminated card. During the UEFA EURO 2020тм matches, a sufficient number of the FAN ID Distribution Centres will be operating, including near the Saint Petersburg stadium, where you can quickly get your FAN ID.

Entry to the Russian Federation using the FAN ID and the identity document recognised as such by the Russian Federation (Passport) is possible from 00:00 on 30 May 2020 to 23:59 on 3 July 2020 (local time of arrival in Russia).

Departure from the Russian Federation is possible from 00:00 hours on 30 May 2020 to 23:59 on 13 July 2020 (local time of departure from Russia).

So, they have confirmed what we already suspected. You cannot apply for a Fan-ID until
    -  your team has won their R16 match,
    -  they have qualified for the St Petersburg QF, and
    -  you have received notification of such from UEFA, i.e. your ticket status has been updated.

They have also confirmed that you need your printed A4 PDF Fan-ID to enter Russia without a visa. The implication is that your application, the acknowledgement email and the approval email would not be enough. You need the email with the PDF link and you need to print it off.

I may be being a bit thick here but does that mean that there is no way of applying until after the R16 game has finished and uefa have upgraded the ticket. I’ve sorted a photo out that is acceptable, is there anything else that we can do beforehand.

It's as you say. If you've got a photo which the application system has accepted then there is nothing more you can do until after the Copenhagen match. Keep the photo on your phone and on your laptop / PC.

Those who, like me, have already booked transport to St Petersburg are going to be sweating over whether the email with the Fan-ID link comes through before the flight leaves. Those who have not yet booked transport are going to be wondering what flights will be left and how much they will cost when the Fan-ID email arrives.

When the fixtures were drawn, I rather fancied coming second in the group because I thought the Copenhagen - St Petersburg pairing would be more interesting places to visit than Dublin - Rome. Now, with the potential for missing my flight to St Petersburg through lack of a Fan-ID, I'm hoping we win the group !

How easy will it be to print an A4 PDF fan ID if you ask at your hotel is it easy enough to do . You might have to send it to them by email would this be possible. Or you might have to connect to there printer via WiFi or some other method

    In reply to Anthony Simpson:

It shouldn't be a problem. When you get the email from the Fan-ID team and you open the link in this email, it will download the Fan-ID to your phone as a PDF file. You can send this file to the hotel reception as an email attachment and they can print it off. It's no different from asking them to print off a flight boarding pass. Make sure the printer is enabled for colour printing as the Fan-ID includes your photo which must be printed in colour.

should be fairly straight forward as long as your hotel has that facility but you will need it prior to arriving in Russia

blogs: Tim Vickery: A World Cup in every sense

Two World Cup Finals are being replayed in this week’s 2014 semi finals. The Germans seek revenge for their 2-0 defeat in 2002 when they meet Brazil – amazingly only the second time these giants have ever met in the tournament. And Holland were the closest – so far – a European team has ever come to winning the World Cup in South America when they hit the post with almost the last kick of normal...

blogs: Sue Smith: England can bounce back

There’s no doubt England can bounce back – the women’s team did it after the 2007 World Cup by going all the way in Euro 2009. Although we lost against Germany in the final of those Euros, there was a sense of achievement and progress...

blogs: Graeme Le Saux: Cool-hand Luke can handle price-tag

Having a hefty price tag can weight heavy on your shoulders – it certainly did for me when I moved back to Chelsea in 1997 for £5.5m. At the time I was the most expensive English defender and there was a lot of pressure that came with that. I found it quite hard and Luke Shaw now finds himself in a similar position after moving to Manchester United for £30m. It does make you look at things differently...

blogs: Graeme Le Saux: It’s time to give England’s players a break

There’s no doubt England’s players will be disappointed with the way things panned out in Brazil, but they deserve a break after the mentally exhausting season they have all had. They’ll feel like they are coming home prematurely because going into these tournaments you always think that you’re good enough to progress, so to lose their first two games and be out of the World Cup this early will...

blogs: John Hemmingham: Fresh faces give us cause for hope

In my years following England I’ve seen some great players come and go – and teams rise and fall. I can say with pride that I saw every game David Beckham played for England and I have also been privileged enough to have seen all of Frank Lampard and Steven Gerrard’s appearances. Watching the Costa Rica match it was hard to think that it might be both of their final appearances. I remember Gerrard...
