UEFA EURO 2020

Opodo flight cancellation guarantee

Has anyone ever used the cancel for any reason guarantee when booking a flight through Opodo and had the 80% refund? Looking at it for the knockout rounds but a bit dubious about it. Can’t seem to find any reviews online.

Hi - I've not done it before but this is exactly what I've recently booked and they do say cancel for any reason. I've booked return flights to all 4 possible R of 16/QF destinations (based on us being 1st or 2nd in group - haven't bothered with Bucharest/Baku/etc which probably guarantees us coming 3rd!)

The total layout out for those 4 return flights was £673 of which £60 was the refund fees (around £8 per flight on average). If I had to ask for every flight to be refunded, I'd get £490 back (they don't refund any of the refund fee of course) so a loss of £183.

I've calculated that it means I'll pay around 35% more per flight than current prices but I'd be very surprised if the flights I've booked aren't a lot more than 35% more expensive come 23 June next year so for peace of mind with all flights confirmed for me and a mate and all cancellable accommodation booked via Booking.com, I think it's worth the outlay.

Unless Opodo find a reason not to refund the unused legs...………..

    In reply to Tim Powell:

Yeah it’s worth it if they refund you! Probably just me being cynical but just seems too good to be true.

If you don't go for it, I'll let you know next July whether they refunded everything so you (and I!) will know for next time.

I've taken out this 'Cancel for Any Reason' guarantee for both the Copenhagen and St Petersburg trips. I am a bit apprehensive about it for 2 reasons.

The T&Cs seem to contain an awful lot of "Simon says rub your tummy then pat your head". I'm concerned that if I make a claim they'll say you patted your tummy and rubbed your head so we won't pay. Obviously, this is not literal, but you know what I mean about claims procedures designed to trip you up.

The other thing is a clause which says :-

The Cancel for Any Reason Guarantee must be used by all passengers and all flights at the same time when requesting the cancellation and this service can only be used once.

Does this mean that if I claim for the Copenhagen trip then I can't claim for the St Petersburg trip ?

Hi - my understanding of it is that you can cancel any individual return flight for which you've paid a fee eg my return flight to Copenhagen cost £113 plus a £6.50 fee for each leg whilst my return trip to St Petersburg cost £211 plus a £9.50 fee for each leg. They are separate transactions with separate fees so I should be able to claim a refund for either/both.

I purposely booked individual return flights as opposed to the multi flight connecting option - a/ because we may get knocked out and b/ to avoid any quibbles from Opodo about not refunding subsequent flights if I'd taken the first leg. It meant I had to be creative so I've booked to return to Luton from Copenhagen on the afternoon of 1 July from where I either return home if we've been knocked out or I catch the overnight Wizz Air flight from Luton to St Petersburg flying at 22.25 that evening.

I think the best way to check on your refundable status is to go to the 'Manage my Booking' in the confirmatory email from Opodo then 'Manage Booking' and then click on 'Cancellation' in the right hand menu and this should confirm your Cancel for any Reason status.

I've just booked Dublin, Copenhagen and St Peters with them. Rome I can't make anyway but I see costs are daft for Rome flights!

Looks a good service, annoying as we lose out regardless but UEFA aren't bothered about fans anyway!
