EURO 2020

UEFA EURO 2020

Semi final dilemma

Misses already has a semi final ticket if we win the group through uefa sales earlier this year but still needs to apply for semi tkt through EF in case we get that far finishing runners up

How does that work ?

Can she still apply for a semi tkt ?

Your wife certainly can't hold a conditional semi-final ticket from the FA allocation and an unconditional ticket to one semi-final from the general public lottery. This is because, depending on England's pathway through the tournament, she could end up with 2 tickets to the same match.

I came across this article in the Euro 2020 general public lottery T&Cs :-

3.27. Any Successful Applicant who purchases or is allocated Tickets for the relevant Match via any other method (including but not limited to Tickets purchased and allocated via the Participating National Associations Fan Sales process) are not permitted to receive Tickets pursuant to these Terms and Conditions. Any Request for such Tickets will be rejected or cancelled, regardless of whether such Request has been accepted by UEFA Events SA.

Translating from Bafflegab to English, I think this is anticipating that some people will apply for tickets through their PNA, e.g. the FA, for matches they have already got through the public lottery. This article seems to be saying that the original tickets from the public lottery would be cancelled. What it is not saying is :-
    -  whether any other tickets in your public lottery order would also be cancelled,
    -  whether you would get a refund on the cancelled tickets,
    -  whether you would be allowed to keep the tickets from the PNA sale.

You have nothing to lose by checking this interpretation with the UEFA 'contact us' help desk and getting answers about the above questions. You can offer to submit the ticket from the public lottery to the ticket re-sales platform in March if you were successful with your ticket request through the FA.

    In reply to Graham Morrison:

No, that's not correct. There are some members with much longer memberships than me who say that there used to be such a rule. But there is definitely no such rule in the T&Cs for the 2020 tournament.

But there was a way around it in Russia, don’t know if it will work again. I applied for the St Petersburg semi in the general draw but then of course couldn’t apply for the semi as part of the EF fans allocation. However it didn’t seem to mind me being a named person on someone else’s application. They may have closed that loophole by now, but it did mean I got to both semi finals.

I think getting someone to give me a tkt for a semi final in London will be a tad harder than Moscow.
I got a name change tkt for Kiev CL final in 2018 cos people didn’t or couldn’t pay the flights and digs costs Madrid was totally the opposite.

blogs: Ian Fenwick: England emerging for bright future

I’m someone who is lucky enough work within the FA and the one thing I can say from my experience is that the future of English football is amazingly bright. Of course it’s not enough to always say that the things are going to be good in...

blogs: Tim Vickery: Belo Horizonte a fair setting for England’s new beginnings

Last time the World Cup came to Brazil, England went to the city of Belo Horizonte to be humiliated; it is the scene of that notorious 1-0 defeat to the United States. Perhaps humiliation is too strong a word this time. After all, England’s 2014 World Cup campaign has been marked by single goal defeats to former world champions, whereas back in 1950 the pride of the old First Division went down to what essentially...

blogs: Graeme Le Saux: England can bounce back if they take a few risks

After the disappointment of the last two games, it’s vital that England take risks against Costa Rica. We don’t need two holding midfielders, Roy Hodgson has to start Adam Lallana over Danny Welbeck and we should switch to three men at the back. There was a clear opportunity against Uruguay and Italy to go to a back three – it would have allowed us to put some of our inventive players into more creative...

blogs: John Hemmingham: Let’s blow our own trumpet for once – come on England!

I’m used to blowing my own trumpet but not when it comes to predictions – I think we’ll get a result against Uruguay, but I thought we’d beat Italy 4-0! You’ve got to be optimistic as an England fan, sometimes it’s blind optimism but if you do what we do you have to believe. I’ve been following England with the band for 18 years now and it has always been the same. Roy Hodgson...

blogs: Tim Vickery: Uruguay may raise their game away from Fortaleza furnace

In the build-up to the World Cup a Uruguayan company launched an imaginative advertising campaign. Draped in a sky blue sheet, the colour of Uruguay’s shorts, the ghost of 1950 wandered around Rio frightening the locals – no one ever here needs reminding that the last time the World Cup was held in Brazil, Uruguay walked off with the trophy. So there was an element of Brazilian joy at Uruguay’s humiliating...
