Watching the match last night on TV I was (naively) surprised at the number of empty seats. Further investigation reveals that these seats had been sold but the ticket buyers had opted not to attend. Speaking to several people in the know I was told that members buy these tickets to accumulate loyalty points in order to be able to buy tickets for the more lucrative matches. This seems pretty extreme but I guess it proves a couple of things. These fans have considerable disposable income and that the problem is only going to get worse as these "Loyalty Point Warriors" increase in number.
I noticed it at Arsenal last night but I guess this problem isn't only exclusively to them. Be interesting to see if they bring in a similar system to the one in use at Wembley.
Has anyone seen this problem at their club?
